Be advised, this game is brutal. Your starting ship is a piece of junk and you WILL DIE A LOT. You are always going to be outnumbered (not by just 2 or 3, but frequently by 10-20) and gang banged.

Also, there are no maids.

Would like to try this game but not for a $30. Looking for more like a $15.

Gotta say, this games cloud saving and syncing system SUCKS MAJOR ASS! This thing has [email protected]#$%^ up my saves THREE TIMES now and put me back to a save I had several days ago! UGH, never had this problem with steams cloud saving and swapping computers...

I just lost ALL the progress I made over the weekend. I bought a new ship and had about 30k credits left over. I fired up my save on my other computer, it always asks me the confusing "which cloud save do you want? The older or newer one?" (why is it even asking me this? Shouldn't it know which one is the most recent?) Well duh I select the newer one, only to get into the game and find myself back to the starter ship and only 3k credits in reserve on BOTH machines...bullshit. I'm not going through two days work again after their cloud saving ****ed up my progress. Already uninstalled so guess I'll have to shelve this one until later.

Oh well, guess I can finally get around to finishing up Titan Quest.

Ok switched to the controller and I'll admit, it's much better.

Just picked up a jump drive so I can do out-system missions.

Gotta admit, though, I've been spending more time playing pool than anything else.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is actually a Pool and Art painting game, with a mini side game that is like Privateer.

Re-installed it and this time am going to manually move my saves until cloud saving is more functional...

On a side note; their southern accents are so bad being forced unnaturally, but I'm guessing that was the idea...to make it sound as campy as possible. In that way, they succeeded.

Also, I tried buying two mini-torp launchers and either I don't know how to fire them or they are bugged because they would not fire even though they were fully loaded. Gee, an official forum for the game would suuuuuuuuuuure be helpful at a time like this!

https://www.pcgamer.com/rebel-galaxy-outlaw-review/

I agree with pretty much everything in the review. Game is fun, but a bit repetitive and hollow with largely boring characters. Flashy combat though.

They gave it a 78, sounds about right.

It's closer to Privateer than freelancer. Freelancer had a pretty good story and memorable characters as well as great keyboard + mouse control. This game has a bland story with boring/hollow characters and clunky mouse keyboard controls (works best with a gamepad). Combat is fairly satisfying though, if a bit repetitive and rage inducing at times (first time I've raged at a game in years when you get anal bombed by a swarm and can do nothing about it).

Minitorps are still considered as secondary weapons, so you need to switch to them if you have another missle launcher installed. On the game pad the default button to change secondary weapons in D-Pad Right.

Why are mini-torps considered a secondary weapon but you load them only in the primary weapons slots?

Confusion.

EDIT: Well, the mini-torps didn't seem very practical as a primary weapon in the first place, considering they only have an ammo supply of 20 (you could blow that on one or two ships!) and then you're out. Having a limited ammo primary weapon is a death sentence so I don't think they thought that one out very well, but I was still curious what it fired like. Now that I know it is really a secondary weapon in the primary weapon slot (again, wtf?) it makes even less sense.

Ok so I learned a lesson the hard way...make sure when you are completing a plot mission to wait for the "MISSION COMPLETE" dialog BEFORE you autopilot away. I was doing that mission for Richter where you have to destroy those infected ships, and I completed the mission and Richter was saying "the money is already in your bank account" and then Juno said something after that and so I figured "great, I'm done" and auto piloted away only to be greeted by "Mission failed, you left the mission area" WTF? So I had to jump back to the mission origin, get the mission, jump back to where I was and do the mission a second time...ugh.

Anyways, take this as a word of caution unless you like repeating missions.

This game is fun, but once you gain all the best gear and ship....there really isn't much more to do. Even completing the campaign at this point seems kinda...meh.

I think all things considered, I like the first rebel galaxy more. There was just more substance and everything to do. More ships to buy, more systems to visit, more upgrades and weapons to collect, just more of everything really.

Graphics are fine if a bit colorful (sort of like going from Diablo 2 to Diablo 3). The gameplay is fun enough, but it does get annoying (especially early on) when you get gangbanged by a swarm of fighters and you can do nothing about it (hope you like being missile spammed). Pro-tip; when this happens wait until they blow you up and the save reloads. If you just escape to menu and click on continue, it will plop you in a safer spot but you'll have all the damage you sustained from the battle you just got out of...meaning you'll likely have one hell of a repair bill. This is a big problem early game so it's better to just let them blow you up and reload on a station.

Also, the characters talk all the ****ing time. Often makes me wonder why there is even a soundtrack, you can't ever hear it! Every time there is chatter the sound quiets down so you can hear the random banter. I actually find it annoying because it's too much.

The game is a little disappointing overall (my absolute biggest gripe is that there is less of everything, especially barely any ship variety at only 5 ships) but was it worth $30? Barely, but yes it can be enjoyable if repetitive and shallow.

EDIT: Also this should not be happening but it is VERY irritating. Copied from a reddit thread;

Quote:
It's super annoying that the section of the HUD that show's the target info is shared with peoples faces and random log entries or status updates. I can't tell what is going on with the target most of the time in a fight because it's covered over with NPC faces. I often give up on a target thinking that it's about to explode, and it's right back on my tail with full shields while I am chasing another fighter.

I am hoping for a menu option I missed.
Sharing useless portraits with your status updates and HUD is a serious issue. Interrupting targeting data for pointless info is a cardinal sin. As he stated, it's impossible to constantly scan one enemy because (as I stated earlier) NPCs are ALWAYS TALKING TO YOU.

While there were more stuff to buy, the first game onky had 7 to 12 systems , number of systems changed on each new start. RGO has 39.

In RGO did you get your space station and upgrade it?

TONS more stuff to buy and things to work towards (like better, more expensive and a more powerful ships). In RGO, you can get the best ship within an hour or two play with trading apparently. People are saying don't use any guns except photon and auto cannons so that eliminates the weapon variety. At that point it's just grind away. Not a lot of stuff to do.

No I don't have my space station yet, not that far into it but far enough to see where my ceiling is heading.

Seems the cloud saving issue of randomly deleting saves has gotten worse, not better. Multiple reports of it happening randomly are coming in. I'd suggest you keep a manual backup guys.

Quote:
I had 15-20ish hours of progress on my main pc, then I go on a work trip and load it up on my laptop just assuming cloud save would work. But the game loads and my save is within the first couple hours of the game. So i close the game and do something else. Then I get home to main PC, load up game, and that save must have pulled from my laptop cause it's in the first hours of the game as well.

So now I am screwed.

**** the piece of trash Epic Game Store, why even implement cloud saves if it does nonsense like this. I guess this is a reminder to manually back up your save at this location - %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Double Damage Games\RebelGalaxyOutlaw\

BUT, I really think the developers made a huge mistake by not letting you create multiple manual save slots.

I think he is leaving out the part where Epic's UI brings up asking you what version of the save is most up to date, what is on the laptop or what is currently in the cloud, and he picked the local save as being the most up to date instead of what is currently on the cloud server.

No he's not, I've had it royally **** up my saves 3 times even after I chose the most recent save. One of the times it even did the exact same thing to me that it did to him where it just "forgot" about the most recent save and deleted it offering old starter saves. It also frequently thinks the most recent save is one that shouldn't even exist yet...which it is obviously not a recent save. EPICS cloud is horseshit and I wouldn't trust it. Read the page for other people describing similar horror stories.

- Who are you that flies so good? Are you insane?
- No, it's just got a load of cargo in the hold, and my grammar is just as bad as you is.

My god, looking at screenies of this brought back one of my first PC games ever, and the marvel that is the Privateer Intro (or Privater. Thanks, 8 character DOS file names).

So I just accidentally beat the game while I was building my Bountiful Vista base (lol never got to complete it)...yeah that has got to be the absolute worst ending I've ever seen in a game...period. It was like an afterthought, throw-away type of "ending". You're left thinking "Did I just win, wtf happened?".
