Default 1440p video and GPU acceleration

hello guys

i was trying to play a 1440p timescapes video on vlc and the video was choppy.
but when i unchecked the gpu acceleration option the video was smooth as butter.

so, the question goes like this. is vlc gpu acceleration support buggy? is there a problem with my widows and i should try to reinstall? or should i try to change to a different player and which one should i use? media player classic adds waaaaaaaay too many "thingies".
thanks

Cheers !!!

P.S. didn't know where to post this thread so if it's the wrong one, please someone move it

It is "experimental" says so in the Preferences > Input and Codecs of the player.

Choppy? Even their trailer shows some choppyness here and there...

Is there a reason you don't use regular windows media player for it? It should have good GPU acceleration

My guess would be you do not need to install codec pack for vlc player as it is all built in, would be the reason

by regular windows media player you mean the one that ships with win7?
cause it doesn't open mkv or mp4 files. and i'm not very keen on installing windows player classic cause of all the codecs it installs.

i know that vlc hardware acceleration is still buggy but i never expected frame drops every 1-2 seconds.

i'm not using the 4k video, just the 1440p one which is lower resolution so theoretically it should be easier to play.

anyways, i will try to play the video on my laptop which has an i7 and an nvidia GT540 to see the end result.

thanks for the responses guys

Cheers !!!

well, it runs fine on a i7-2670QM with 6gigs of ram and a GT540 2GB.
gpu acceleration and all...

weird, i thought that since 7970 is far more powerfull than the laptops' gpu, this video would play better...

oh well..

Cheers !!!
