Default HF10 Battery Pack won't charge, and other problems

So i got a canon vixia hf10 with a third party charger (enercell) and it has settings for voltage from 1.5V to 12V at 300mA, but the HF10 calls for 8.4V ...

could this be a problem for charging the battery pack, and other problems?

the CHG indicator blinks every .5 seconds which according to the manual refers to either a faulty power adapter, or a faulty batter pack...

the camcorder does power on in still/video playback mode, and video record mode, but fails to turn on in still record mode... with the enercell

is my unit faulty or is it likely rectified by purchasing a new and more appropriate power adapter and battery pack?

I'm guessing that 12V is too high for the camera. The original charger outputs 8.4v @ 2a.

the charger has a variable setting between 1.5V and 12V... you can set the voltages of it, but not 8.4V 2A exactly.. only like 7.5 and 9V

try 8.4-8.8v

EDIT: Try 9V assuming that it outputs the voltages at 300mah 9v should be fine

the camcorder powers on and works in video/still playback, and video record, but not camera record even with the enercell power adapter set to 9V

the CHG (charging indicator) flashes 0.5 seconds which indicates either a faulty power adapter or battery pack...

My best guess is that the charger isn't strong enough to charge/power it. Since I have a camera that requires at least 2A if you want to power it on and use it while its charging. I've tried 1A and it just won't turn on.

Not sure if I would trust "equivalent" batteries and charger, but they offer a warranty so it should be okay.

BTW voltage is the least of your worries if the enercell charger can't provide enough amps.
I would contact the ebay person you bought the camera from and ask why they sent you a half-working camera.

"Sounds like we sent you the wrong charger or we didnt have the right charger with it to begin with, do you think that it doesnt power up into the still mode because its not charging correctly ? Or does it seem more like its got issues? I will see if we have a correct charger for it, but I am not sure we have anything other then what we sent out with it, but I will take a look around our shop to make sure. Let me know what you want to do."

what do you guys suggest? i was going to tell him that i ordered two battery packs, and a charger combo to test it out with for now
