Will definitely pay to see this on the big screen. Please don't suck.

Here's hoping he can make it happen. He did it with Blade Runner 2049, which pleasantly surprised me.

I refuse to get my expectations and hopes up for this. I have super fond memories of the first book and want to keep it that way..

I had similar concerns when I first heard they were making Lord of the Rings movies. Before that I had thought that there was no way to actually make decent, watchable LOTR/Middle-earth movies which also did right by the source material. I was wrong. Hopefully the same thing will be true for Dune, because I'm there with you; that was probably my single favorite book for a long time. It's still one of my all-time favorites.

It would be nice if you were right. There are those of us who still deal with the scars the 1984 version left

iirc Lynch (had to look it up lol) actually sliced important characters and events from that attempt so he could cram what he thought was important into it and wound up with just a disconnected and boring mess.

Villeneuve - if anyone can he can I would think. It would be a very pleasant surprise if he does.

I honestly hope they keep the budget real this time. 100 million should be enough to do the first half of the first book. They should run the movie with cg sets like Sin City did and use unknown actors.

By going balls to the wall on Blade Runner 2049's budget and not making money at the BO they probably wont make a sequel to that.

I love the Lynch film and the mini series was ok. But best is to read the books.

First read the book. Only the first one is necessary, really. But as for adaptations, I remember thinking the TV series they did around 2003-ish was pretty good.

I second jimmyboy-- just read the book. It's probably on everyone's top-5 sci-fi novels list and for good reason. Hmm, thread-fodder perhaps?
