AMD AMD has Windows 8 Certified Driver, too

Not to be outdone by NVIDIA's announcement yesterday of Windows 8 certified driver, AMD are announcing the same:

Today, we are proud to announce that AMD has received Windows Hardware Certification (WHC) for an AMD Catalyst™ graphics driver on Windows® 8. This landmark moment reflects both our commitment to AMD Radeon™ graphics customers, and our vision of providing quality hardware/software solutions for Microsoft® Windows® products.

Our certified driver has been successfully tested against several families of AMD Radeon™, AMD Accelerated Processing Units (APUs), and AMD FirePro™ products. We’ll be able to detail these products in the days ahead.

AMD’s Windows Hardware Certified driver will be posted later this summer after additional QA has been performed to ensure the highest reliability.

Right now both AMD and NVIDIA have Windows 8 WHC drivers that aren't released yet. What QA work can be done on a WHC driver before release isn't clear, perhaps it's a simple as completing install testing on various different products to ensure the proposed compatibility list is accurate, and filling out the list of 'known issues' for the release notes.

Hopefully with my 5870 it will not have large borders around my HDTV set when gaming.
