Default DirectX/OpenGL game in Windows 7 taskbar preview mouseover

I swear I used to have this working on Vista for a long time. But, it stopped working. I then switched over to Windows 7 64-bit with my NV 8800GTS and it still didn't work (preview window is blank). So, I thought it was just my card. I got my ATI 5870 and it still doesn't work.

Is there a trick to get this to work so I can actually see what is going on in the game I have minimized?

Is it a full-screen window or a desktop window?

After doing some research this morning, it turns out I need to run WoW in window mode to get this to work. So, when I set WoW to maximized windowed mode, it looks exactly the same in-game opposed to non-windowed mode. All's good now.

I was going to say, this feature will not work on reduced applications that are 3D accelerated. You found out already though.
