Yep!

3900x
Giga Aorus Master x570
32Gb Corsair 3200
Evga SuperNova 850 G3

Cant say enough good things about it, just rips through anything i give it. Runs hot tho... need to change the AMD cooler on it as i dont like the sound of it (spinning up and down when just doing mundane stuff), and having it cooler is always a plus. Need something thats quiet and drops the overall temps... just cant decide on going with an water AIO or a higher quality HSF. My previous Noctua was fantastic for my 8350 as it kept it cool and couldnt hear it at all... any suggestions?

For a big chip with a lot of heat I’d go with the H150i. Run the fans low speed with the pump on Quiet mode and it’ll basically be silent.

Wouldn't a heatsink that was able to keep a 8350 cool and quiet be able to handle a 3900x?

Yeah but if you’re going to buy an expensive CPU why wouldn’t you get the best cooler possible for it?

I wouldnt mind using the one I used (NH-U9S) but I cant get the modification kit that will work for the AM4 socket.
So im leaning towards the Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4

Timspy

Fire strike

It doesn't appear to like my old DDR-3200 memory though. Tried twice to use XMP and also setting it manually to DDR-3200. Would not boot with all kinds of blue screen fun. Seems to run fine at the DDR-2133.

Bit the bullet today and went with the 3700x. Was able to use some points I had with Best Buy to get $50 off with a pick up date of next Monday. I'm sure that I could've gotten it delivered quicker elsewhere, but didn't exactly feel like playing the in stock / out of stock game much... Though there have been some 3800xs in stock at Newegg since I got off of work....

Works out too that after the interview I have later this week, I will have it in time to celebrate or wallow with new tech. Planning on keeping everything but the CPU in my current system, so it will be interesting what this x370 board nets for performance.

Yep, I guess I should start updating.

Strange that after another fail at DDR-3200 the last 2 reboots it has stuck, betting it wont stay that way but squeezed a little more out of the performance

Fire Strike at DDR-3200 - 23434

Edit: Its definitely made my uncapped frame rate in ACO at 4K much smother. Had it capped at 30 because of the terrible stuttering I was getting, Uncapped it and no more stuttering.
Cemu is also night and day from my 6600K

It was also nice how nicely Windows 10 kept all my stuff the same, I know you should reload but I have a ton of games loaded that I would waste a night trying to find in my Terabytes of game data. Didn't have to reconfigure one thing from the 7 Drives I have in this PC.

As far as fans its a non issue for me, About the only thing I hear is the House fan I run almost 24/7 365 Days a year right behind me.

I bought a Thinkpad T495 with a 3700U. Hey, let's rebrand our totally 2nd gen Zen+ chips as 3000 series because we're AMD!

That's fairly common in laptops. Nvidia has done this with their GPUs, AMD did it with the GPUs back in the 6970 era in laptops, Intel has done this with processors.

They all do this periodically to keep the naming scheme together. They don't want you to think you are buying "last gen tech" in something that can't easily be changed out.

Decided to go with the noctua nh-d15... ill post some pics when shes installed this weekend. Wouldnt mind going AIO but for the price, $100cdn, there isnt much else that comes close to it in performance and quietness

In the meantime heres a quick snap...

I'll have to try Cemu now that things are squared away here.

As for no reload I tried that and got stuck with 1.488v on the cpu at all time no matter what I unloaded as far as monitoring programs !_! So I imaged my ssd and nuked and paved. Almost back up and running after around 6 to 8 hours of poking things. The voltage locking to 1.4 - 1.5v is fixed for me now for the most part and temps are down. What's weird is i have hwinfo and the like installed again but it's still lowering the voltages like it should when there is little load.

Twasnt no thang on the game reloading either after the nuke and pave. Steam was top notch after copying the client folder to program files and pointing it to my 4tb mech drive. Uplay needed a client reinstall as did Origin, RSI Launcher and Rockstar social club but after pointing the clients to their game installs on the 4tb and verifying files everything is as it should be.

Pretty lol maxing out my Vega 64 with this new cpu I'm totally gpu bound now instead of cpu bound with the 6600k :D

2020 cant come soon enough then I'll be set for another 3 to 5 years.

I'm not sure if there's a bug or what (Ryzen 2000 also had similar issues although not as bad). The solution for me is to just run in Power Saver. The cores will still boost up, but Windows restricts it so it's less aggressive and doesn't happen constantly. Then they'll actually idle at 30-35C. When I need more performance, which pretty much is only when gaming, I just use Power Plan Switcher to quickly click over to Balanced.

The problem with the high idle temps is it's hard to set a fan curve because the cores are almost always hot, but it's not because your cooling is actually being stressed, it's just because they are running at high voltage/frequency and it doesn't transfer from the core to your heatsink/AIO fast enough. I guess you could set your curve based off of VRM temp or something but for me it's easier to just run in Power Saver. Performance for standard things like web browsing, word processing, Youtube etc, is overkill even at 2.2 GHz core clock, so it doesn't even matter.
The joys of being a first adopter, amirite?

Thanks for the tip...there seems to be some programs (such as Corsair iCUE and Steam, for a couple of examples, but also some HW monitoring programs and other stuff) that poll the cores so often on the new Ryzens, the cores stay in boost mode even when you're not actively running any foreground stuff. If I didn't kill those programs, I was getting 50-55 deg C at idle on my 3700X, even with the CPU fan jacked all the way up, but, under load, it'd never increase more than another 10 deg C.

AMD needs to get with Valve, Corsair, and others to find out why this is happening and fix this, but, otherwise, I'm not stressing too much, because it will get fixed...there's too many people right now having the same issues and they're the ones who tend to buy and promote AMD's stuff to others.

Seeing how it's prone to problems after release I'm glad I've decided to wait for custom 5700XT boards before I get my new rig.

So is the 3700x best deal for AMD gamers right now?

Thus far stable as a rock. Not really pushing the board, right now just going with stock until I get some time to mess with the settings.

Makes nice helicopter sounds.....man these fans are whirry compared to my old Z170....

Picked up a 3800x and ASUS ROG Strix X570-F Gaming ATX Motherboard.

I like the board for the vrm's and the intel nic.

After you mentioned the voltage I decided to give mine a check, Probably should do a reload but will hold out. My voltage has generally been going between 1.43 and 1.5 at idle. I run a million things in my tray though so Bleh, Turned just about everything off and it would drop to like .96 on voltage but never stay there for more then a second.

My dam games are all over the place on my 7 drives, its a pain to try and find them, I probably have 4 locations for just the Origin launcher, Its a mess. That's why I dont want to reload.

I think I'm going to let the dam shizzle do what it wants.

So is the 3700x best deal for AMD gamers right now?
Well it's between the 3700X and the 3600. 3600 is definitely best bang/buck because the 3700X costs 60% more for not that much performance. But if you can afford it, I think the 3700X has better potential longevity.

I ended up with the 3700x because I didn't want to lose cores from my 1700x. The performance would be better on most things with either but it felt wrong to lose 2 cores.... can't wait to play with it once it ships.

Same idea I had from my 1700x. Here is was direct comparison from my 3700x @ 4.3 to 1700x @ 4.0.

I was surprised to see my 1700x at 4.0 was holding back even a 2070.

Guys I'm coming from a 3570k and can't decide between 3700x and 3900x.
I game, do some heavy Word/Excel stuff, and I do some light photo editing.

As I have to get whole new system except my GTX 1070 (old one is going to my son) price difference is not that huge and I think that extra cores/threads will help out in the long run. What do you guys think?
