Talking How many ati owners buying a FX?

Just wondering how many members here plan on
buying a shiny new FX with built in dust buster.

I might get an Ultra. But it depends on when ATI
releases the R350.
I plan on buying in 3 months.

BTW... I hope posting it in this forum was OK.

If the performance is >150% of my current 9700 Pro across both OGL & D3D with both AA & AF, I'd definitely get a GFFX!

Might be a good time to change camps (again) after 2 generations of ATI. Good Ol' nVidia, I miss ya badly.

For me at least it will boil down to
performance. If my OCed 9700 holds it's
own to a FX ultra I'll just hang on to my Pro
till fall. But if the FX overclocks really well
I might get one.

But I just do not see it OCing very well as high
as nvidia has it already. Heck the dust buster tells
us a lot already about the heat at 500 mhz clock.

Now if ati releases the R350 by then ati
might get my money again.
After all ati has shown they can put out some
bad @ss products.

I've never really understood the emotions people show on these boards. All over computer equipment.

Basically, I'd go with whatever suits me best, fits in my budget and is a top performer. If the GeforceFX beats my 9700pro by a great deal, I may consider switching. I'd probably just end up waiting to see how the R350 does though. If it preforms the same as the GFFX, than I'd go with whichever one costs less/better bundle/warranty/looks/etc

IMO whatever brand you choose, your going to get a quality built card with good driver support. ATI has come a very long ways in this regards on driver support. I remember my first Rage Fury..... Never spent so much time trying to get something to work. Mainly with Quake none the less. Memories. heh

I wouldn't buy the GFFX at any price simply because I've no reason to buy one. I'm a heavily multimedia oriented user, and as such...ATi's products fit my requirements much more closely. Had nVidia decided to include multimedia processing features...my stance may have been different. I don't really care about which company I buy from if I feel like I'm getting a good value. The unfortunate thing with nVidia's products outside of the nForce2 is I feel like I'm pretty much paying for the name and giving up the well roundedness I get out of the radeon line. nVidia's target crowd is obviously not the one that includes myself when designing a product.

I'll second the good driver support.
There as good as the nvidia drivers now. Heck I see
as many nvidia driver problems posted on the net
as I do ati's now a days.

i had a Geforce 4 TI4200. Card was good .. did not think you can get much better. I tried my friends 8500 LE .. AMAZING .. right after i use ATI card i ran out and bought the 9500 PRO.. Never look back at Nvidia again. quality was much much less from perfect on the Geforce 4. best quality ive seen on ATI. No problems with Card at all.

Very nice to hear. ATI's cards are well built and 2d is second to non.
I love my 9700 Pro. I'm glad I got it when they first come out.
I'm getting a much longer life out of it than I did my ti4600.

i look at it this way

I just bought a 9500Pro and I can play ALL REPEAT ALL of my games at 1600*1200*32 with 16x ANSIO and 2x FSAA

Games that works

RTCW
UT2K3
UT
Quake III/TA
all of the new versions of the Atari games
Elite force
Descent III

GF FX is a year late and a dollar short in terms of doing anything.

It's probably more than playable, I have a 2100+ XP (OC to 2300+) and I play all games at 1600x1200, 2xAA, 16xAF.

UK2003 with all eye candy maxed runs fast, smooth and beautiful And I have lots of FR headroom!

Well, being in favour of the Radeon line, I most definetly will not consider the gffx. WHY would anyone want to, really? I dont like the idea of the fan, dont like the idea that it has been delayed, dont like the idea the reason for the delay.. Dont like the price tag, dont like the hype thats been spread, dont like nvidia, dont like nvidiots here, dont like the idea of any rep from nvidia scouring these forums suggesting anything. Dont lke the idea that it has not been tested by any sites, such as tom, anand, hardocp, b3d, xbitlabs, pcstats, etc.. Im assuming that any reviewers will most likely paint either a glory picture and tainting the 9700pro.. Though I would enjoy the gffx being tainted by negative context which it deserves..

I see a whole bunch gold fish, guppies and neons swarming around a fishtank waiting for food, looking at the label "nvidia" and then lashing around in a craze, only to be rejected from the owner that just walks away. If done a # times, the fish will definetly subside their antics, and slowly swim away feeling defeated. Only, to once again, the owner showing that undeniably tantilizing label with there supposed wonder drug, having the fish re-energizied.. and then? poor fishies.. heh.

Whos your daddy? Ati..
Whos your nemesis?

No, unless it come out with a AIW kind of card. I need the AIW function alot.

If you guys can wait for a yr for the NV30, why don't wait for another month or 2 and see what the R350 or even R400 offer?

Well..

I dont think that the GFFX is a very appealing product at all. The cheesey way they are going about releasing an extremely overclocked card just to be the fastest... is just infantile imo.

If it were the only product comming out for most of this year.. and if i owned a lot slower card.. and if there were no 9700.. then i would say yes.. It may be interesting. But those simply are not the facts. Im sure that the avid Nvidia faithful will be all over it.. And those who are still stuck in GF2 hell etc... but..

With the advent of the R350.. and even more importantly the R400..and yes.. the much more interesting Nv35.. Id pass on this for sure.

ROTFLMFAO!!!

Oh come on now give me a break.

Seriously though I see no reason for a R9700 owner to buy one unless the speed is 40% or more faster.

Not me

I don't think I'd appreciate it when they deleberatly hold back the performance of the card until the day the R350's announced.

Assuming ofcourse that the GF FX even comes out before the R350's officially announced

It would be the Rolls Royce of videocards.
Meaning it's not in most peoples budget.

I bet that when the 350/400 is released that nvidia will have the magical drivers that boost it 30+% in performance.
Nvidia likes to do that whenever someone threatens them.
Then pretend like they are doing it for their customers...

The ATI Radeon 9700 pro is my first ATI card ever. My last 5 video cards prior to this have been from Nvidia. I love the 9700 pro except for the D3D stuttering. I've never experienced this with any of the Nvidia cards. If ATI doesn't cure this stuttering (I hope they do), and when the price is right (around $400-500 CAN), and the detonator drivers for the FX are proven to be good, I'll most likely switch back to Nvidia.

I am happy with my R9700Pro, and my next upgrade will be mobo/CPU, maybe a Hammer or 3.0Ghz+ P4 if they come down a fair bit in price. Probably be next year that I upgrade my graphics card again.

I think nVidia has lost the plot a bit with the GFFX.

LMAO. Tell you what. When they release some games that are too much for my 9700 to run, I'll think about switching. Sorry but flushing $400+ down the toilet for some negligible increase in some benchmarks really don't do it for me.
