Default FireGL v5200 for gaming

I am interested in the IBM T60P and it has the FireGL V5200, in which Ive heard is comparable to the X1600 mobile on other notebooks. Ive also heard that it becomes troublesome to play games on this GPU. Can somebody explain how to get around this and the problems.

Thank you.

The only thing I could really tell you is that generally the FireGL series are not for gaming. They are more office/business products, good for using programs like I think AutoCad. But not for games, in games they will not perform well. They also are very, very expensive. If you are getting the notebook for gaming it may be driving the price up unnecessarily.

Get an X1600 or any other kind of Raedon type card. FireGLs have a lot of issue when trying to play games. I've been seeing all kinds of lock ups in WoW which require a reboot. I've tried a ton of drivers, none of which fix the issue.

I think you can softmod it to a Radeon, shouldnt be any trouble if you can.
The main difference is the drivers, and back when I was running my 9700Pro as a FireGL most games wouldnt even start.

Running my 6800GT as a Quadro FX4000 (softmod via Rivatuner), only problem Ive had sofar is BSOD when using AA in WOW.. seems NVs Quadro drivers are alot more forgiving on gaming, prolly realized that game developers sometimes use Quadros in the same stations they play games on, or test their own games.
But its definatly slower then using Geforce drivers.
