Default Intel 64bit and hyperthreading question

just had a thought. Is Hyperthreading going to be compatible in x86-64? I mean they way I understand hyperthreading now is that in programs designed for it, it will help aleviate the strain of the intel long pipeline and ultimatle process faster. Basicially it's another 32 bit register. Now, intel said it's going to adopt AMD's x86-64 technology, will hyperthreading be upgraded to 64 bit? if so then it will be one costly chip for intel. Personally I think hyperthreading is a gimmic anyway, but I was just wondering.
