Default Accidentally bought a 1440 monitor and I never want to go back to 1080

Now that I've been spoiled with 1440 I see the difference and it is HUGE. The new monitor I have is this puppy;

https://www.asus.com/Displays-Deskto...Gaming-VG27AQ/

I originally just wanted a 27 inch monitor and 1080P was fine. I needed it to be IPS, 144hz, and 1ms response time. Those were the big deals for me (and it needed to be on an adjustable stand, not a one piece low base). I didn't even look at the res and when I brought it home I noticed everything was higher resolution. I checked in Windows, and that is when I saw it was a 1440p monitor. I thought; "Huh, interesting. Let's see what a game looks like".

Instantly I saw the quality difference and now that I'm spoiled I never want to return to 1080p. It's like night and day. I don't think my computer is ready for 4k, but for 2k res it can handle it nicely.

Call it blissful ignorance, but there are 1080p monitors at 27inch.

1080P at 27 inches is actually fairly bad. I owned a 27 inch 1080P monitor for a couple of years, before it died and Samsung just refunded most of my money rather than repair it. Although it was tolerable, the low pixel density was quite noticeable relative to 1080P/24 in or even 1440P/32. I didn't absolutely hate it, but I did notice it.

Ideally the biggest you should go at 1080P is 24 inches.

Somehow my office ended up with two 24 inch (?) 720p Apple monitors. A couple of guys were excited until they plugged one in. It was barely able to contain the Excel splash screen.

It can actually go to 165hz "Overclocked" but I haven't messed with that and just stay at the official 144hz.

IMHO 120-144hz is the sweet spot, I can never go back to 60hz. Welcome to the dark side muahhahahaa..

So often is the case with overclocking monitors that you generally get worse colors, gamma, response time etc. If it was a free lunch, it would be set at 165hz. I would just keep it at it's standard timing.

Congrats! You will love it. The jump from 1080p --> 1440p is better and more noticeable than the jump from 1440p--> 4k.

Enjoy your gaming sessions

Ya 1440p was a better upgrade even at 32" than I thought it would be. While its about 2x more pixels than 1080p its still bigger screen and while I can see the pixels at desktop (I have pretty good eyesight) when gaming you dont notice them.

I got the mon for its freesync premium pro specs which made it way better than my old 28" 4k 60hz mon. Will be looking at 8k next time.

This is my thinking too. I'm perfectly happy with 144hz, so it's no biggy for me.

Why? I can choose to hit 240 FPS in the games I like. I am doing about 200 FPS in Death Stranding, about 175 in COD BOCW, about 240 in Doom Eternal with a mix of Max settings w/ DLSS in first two games (usually without RTX).

I tried that line with the Mrs. "Oh my gosh, who put that 48" OLED in my cart?! I've never been so surprised in my life... OMG, somebody mounted it on the wall! What is going on?!"

Didn't work. She knows it was me.

What I meant by "accidentally buying a 1440 monitor" was I was under the impression it was a 1080p monitor due to a miscommunication with the sales guy. It was a pleasant surprise that it was actually a 1440p monitor when I got it home. I didn't accidentally purchase a monitor .

What i mean is that the 240 fps is feasible only in very few games not all even with a very very fancy rig.We leave competitive gaming aside.I personally don't play pubg, overwatch or whatever.
Valhala and Cyberpunk are not 240 fps in 4k with RTX and ultra enabled.
