I'm not fan of the look of either of them myself - but I don't really care what they look like, I care about the games.
You can't be serious? The ps4 looks like a super futuristic ps2.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the PS4 isn't nearly as quiet and puts out a lot more heat. The hardware may simply be able to handle higher temps though so it may not even be a reliability issue.
Unless someone puts their DVD player or a game disc on top of it. Then the console overheats. MS then has to deal with a bunch of nitwits that killed their own console. I can see it now... the first thing MS will ask when customers call in to support will be "is there anything on top of the console".

IMO, the giant top vent was put there as a PR move so that customers would feel confident that the XBO had adequate cooling. My guess is that they wouldn't have done it if the 360 hadn't had all those RROD problems.

Can anybody hear that?

Edit: Joking aside - you are entitled to your opinion, as I am mine and I think the visual look of them both sucks...

Never thought I would be called a sony fanboy. This forum never ceases to amaze me how up and down it is.

I dont think I have heard you say one positive thing about the Xbox One, and you have been gushing about the PS4 - it's not hard to come to the conclusion. I really don't mean anything derogatory by it, don't get me wrong...

I see merits on both sides myself they both look like kick arse pieces of hardware (not visually...) and I can see why anyone would want either or both. I do think MS are being given a hard time though, maybe not unfairly but also not just because of the Xbox One, but because they are the 'Evil Corporation...'

Exactly in both cases MS and Sony have achieved that, I have 4 consoles under my TV right now, and I don't even notice what they look like. Out of them all the WiiU probably looks the best now I think about it, small, compact, glossy black and unobtrusive. But I only ever look down there to put a disc in or turn them on, they aren't really an eyesore or a focal point in my living room.

This is because M$ made praising the Xbox damn near impossible with all their idiotic decisions, while Sony have made it real easy

It doesn't make you a Sony fanboy to see how much better the PS4 is, that's just common sense and sound reasoning, it makes you a M$ fanboy to see it any other way, because so far the fight has been so one sided it's embarrassing for M$!

The PS4 being better hardware inside is one thing but saying "this plastic box is so much better than the other plastic box" is... well.. insane frankly.

One is a smooth plastic box, one is a smooth plastic box with an angle in it... neither is 'pretty' or 'attractive' and trying to argue one over the other, looks like, just makes it look like the person doing the arguing is wearing <insert company here>-fanboy glasses.

A box is a box is a box is a box in this instance... frankly my Sky Box looks better than both of these.. things....

I disagree, most of what people seem to have a problem with, with the Xbox One and it's policies don't bother me at all, they had a stellar line up of games at E3 and that's all I am concerned about.

PS4 hard drive is user-replaceable
Note: Shacknews apologizes if you're getting tired of these stories that point out what PS4 can do that Xbox One cannot.

PlayStation 4 will support user-replaceable hard drives. According to Sony's Shuhei Yoshida, hard drives are upgradeable "like PS3." PS3 used standard notebook hard drives which could be swapped rather easily. Xbox 360, on the other hand, relied on proprietary hard drives for a bulk of the console's life.

PS4 will launch with a 500GB hard drive, but should that not be enough, you can simply buy a larger one. (Terabyte drives go for well under $100.)

Xbox One does not support user-replaceable hard drives. However, that console does support external USB 3.0 storage devices.

Sony has confirmed that not every multiplayer game for the PlayStation 4 will require PlayStation Plus, as publishers will be able to decide what happens with free-to-play titles.
In an interview with Polygon, SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that this would be the case before revealing that Sony Online Entertainment has already decided its MMOs won't require players to have a PS Plus subscription.
"As far as free-to-play games are concerned, it’s a publisher’s decision whether they put it inside or outside of the PlayStation Plus requirements," he said.
Free-to-play games for the PlayStation 4 that won't require you to have a PlayStation Plus subscription are currently confirmed to include DC Universe Online, PlanetSide 2, Blacklight: Retribution and Warframe.

PS4-Vita Remote Play enabled at a system level

Every single PS4 game will be playable via Remote Play on PlayStation Vita.
That’s because, unlike on PS3 when the functionality needed to be specifically coded in, PlayStation 4 will allow Vita streaming on a system level, Engadget reports.

Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida told the site: "On PlayStation 4 it just happens. You just make a PS4 game, it supports Remote Play.
"The single biggest issue, why there are not many PlayStation 3 games that support Remote Play, was that it was optional – the system didn't do much. The game has to set aside some memory or CPU to be able to do that, and usually, memory is the most precious resource that [development] teams fight amongst each other for. So when it comes down to the priorities, these are features that are very easy to drop.

"Please make sure that when you play your games on Vita, the control is good. That's the minimum thing we're asking them to do."
Obviously there technically are bound to be some exceptions – with the PlayStation Eye-requiring Just Dance given as an example.

Yeah I've been hearing to avoid the superslim if possible.

If I end up buying another PS3 again I'm going to try to find one of the early models and just toss a huge hard drive in it.

They didn't actually completely turn the B/C off on those models right? That's why I want one.

Thanks. I'll have to keep an eye out when I can then. I do have a PS2 right now...but I prefer having HDMI rather than the old RCA cables hooked up.

PS2 emulators on the PC are starting to get acceptable. I would take a look at PCSX2 and see if it does what I needed.

DUALSHOCK 4: Hands-on Impressions

For me, DualShock 4’s most impactful new feature is a subtle but shockingly satisfying detail: A glossy cross-hatched texture that wraps around the larger handles. This texture provides a snug, more comfortable grip on the device compared to DualShock 3’s slipperier feel. This is one of those things you’ll need to try for yourself to truly understand, but once you experience it there’s no going back. It’s a delight.

Then there are the redesigned and retuned analog sticks, which now boast a concave surface and slightly stiffer deadzone that makes it easier to maneuver the camera using small, precise movements. The surface is also more tactile, but not so much that it impedes your thumb’s ability to glide around the inner rim as your make subtle adjustments to your aiming reticule in shooters like Blacklight: Retribution. Much like DualShock 4’s new textured grips, the revamped analog sticks are a clear improvement to the classic design sported by DualShock 2 and DualShock 3. It’s no contest.
The directional pad — always a strength on PlayStation controllers — also impressed. It boasts a unified design that reminded me of PS Vita’s well-liked pad, only oversized and sporting a more tactile matte finish. The depth and response of the pad felt just right: Not too clicky, not too mushy; not too deep, not too shallow. Meanwhile, the new Share and Options buttons that have replaced Start and Select were unobtrusively placed and felt satisfyingly click — appropriate for buttons you’ll use less frequently.

Finally, the new R1 and R2 triggers are exactly what you would hope for and expect. Featuring a slightly “hooked” design and less pressure resistance, these puppies are a perfect fit for your itchy trigger finger. I was also pleased to find that DualShock 4’s L1 and L2 buttons feel almost identical to those on PS3. Why fix what ain’t broken, right? It will be interesting to see if developers of PlayStation 4 shooters enable the player to swap the firing buttons between R2 and L2 like they often do on PS3, or if R2 becomes the universal standard going forward.
I didn’t get a chance to try out any titles that made use of DualShock 4’s new lightbar, touch pad, integrated speaker, or the mono earbud that enables online voice chat out of the box. But those will surely come in time. For now, I’m pleased to report that DualShock 4 is hands-down the best, most comfortable console controller I’ve used.
