Default HBO Watchmen

Just saw episode 1....wow this show is dark and violent and great.
I never saw the movie and read the comic way way long ago, so I'm not sure how much it's been modified by HBO.

Can't wait for episode 2. Love the music and the quality is great. HBO spending money and it shows.

I watched part of it. It's an alternate universe to the movie, so not directly related. Certainly bizarre. I'm going to try and finish the first episode but doesn't seem like my type of thing (and I am a fan of the movie).

Never read the comics and never stayed awake for the movie beyond 10 minutes . . .

I watched the first 45-50 minutes of e1 and
(1) I have only a sketchy idea of what I was watching; something to do with the infamous 1921 Tulsa race riot and an alt-U where the police have to hide their identities,
(2) Something about the dismantling of watches, for reasons that I assume will be revealed later. I can't wait!*
(3) A very early jumping of the shark when the flying bathtub that was the police "aircraft" shoots down a perfectly good Cessna with-- wait for it--- a friggin' flamethrower.

[after watching the final 10 minutes]
* this was revealed almost seconds after I resumed the ep.
(4) Those bastards killed Kenny! Don Johnson!

It's supposed to be a sequel to the graphics novel. Which sort of offers an explanation for the rain of squid thingies.

Is that what was happening there? This is after the graphic novel not the movie?

Not entirely true...

The graphic novel has one story. The movie had some changes that worked better for it.

This show seemingly follows the graphic novel what with the raining of a certain animal...

It is also a continuation of the novel, meaning the events that happen at the end of it (Rorshack sending off his manifesto to the right wing publication) is the basis for what the KKK analogue believes.

I liked the first episode, but we'll see what happens with the next episodes.

I don't know the history of Watchmen so don't know the comics. Is it all about race issues like the show is? I am really getting tired of all the pc bullshit in movies and tv these days so getting put off with this after watching yesterdays episode

I think the original graphic novel by Alan Moore came out in the 80's and was about a pretty recent relevant set of topics: the Cold War, faith in government institutions, and race issues. If the first couple episodes was too "PC" for you then feel free to watch something else.

I'm not a comic follower, but this is the online description of the series:

Quote:
The series takes place in an alternate contemporary reality in the United States, in which superheroes and masked vigilantes were outlawed due to their violent methods, but some of them gather around to start a revolution while others attempt to stop it.

According to Lindelof, the TV series is not a direct adaptation of the original source material, instead, being "remixed"; aiming to tell an entirely new story set in the world where the events of the original storyline took place.

The series also showcases different points of view, with the only characters from the original storyline confirmed to appear in the series being Doctor Manhattan, the former Silk Spectre, and former hero Ozymandias. It retains continuity with the original comic, however, and can be considered a loose sequel.

Hey hey hey. I know we've got a lot of bullsh*t going on in the world but let's at least try and keep OT civil. I'm as guilty as the next guy and am trying to do better.

More less anger. If we can't even change that here what hope have we for the "real world".

I'm really not a fan of the "twist" at the end of the last episode. But we'll see how it shakes out.

Movie was boring but maybe the show is entertaining? Dunno, may check it out for a couple of episodes and see if it grabs me.

Just depends on what you find entertaining. The show has a lot more controversial scenarios/imagery than the movie. The movie was a pretty straight forward 'good guys verses bad guy' story.

I don't really remember much of the movie, other than I found it incredibly boring. If the show is true to the movie, then I guess I wouldn't like it.

The show is edgier in some of their portrayals of 'goings on'... things like male homosexual sex scenes, racial situations/violence, as well as the standard gratuitous violence and killings
