Next Gen APU 'Trinity' featuring Piledriver cores to support Eyefinity
More details of AMD's next generation Accelerated Processing Unit have been collated by Tweaktown, and among the good news is that the APU GPU core series codenamed London will support Eyefinity and DisplayPort v1.2. The graphics engine are indicated to offer an increase of 30% performance over the current Llano-based APU's.
With the Bulldozer launch we heard how the second iteration, codenamed Piledriver, will be launched in 2012 as part of the Trinity family. The slides indicates that A4, A6, and A8 variants of the APU are in Engineering sample status right now, with production slated for January 2012 - are we looking at a CES 2012 introduction?
The Piledriver cores appear to be boosted with support for even higher speed memory. Llano-based APU's were introduced with DDR3-1866 support (2 DIMM's) and this was continued with Bulldozer-based FX processors. The new Trinity APU's are indicated to support upto DDR3-2133 speeds, which may benefit the APU's GPU-based performance immensely.
