By the time a worthwhile usebase for developing dx12 games exists, win 7 will be 7-8 years old.

Not worried, don't think Microsoft can mess up win 10 more than 8.

Win 8 is a good os, it's snappier than win 7, boots faster, and if you don't like metro there are plenty of free solutions that takes care of that.

The win 8 hate reminds me of people still talking **** about vista when the service packs had basically turned it into win 7.

There are definite haters of Win 8 (I am not one of them), fellow workers have had nothing really good to say about their experience with Win 8. One returned a laptop, bought a laptop with win 7, one did what you said, turned it into a more Win 7 atmosphere minus Glass, several others just complain to no end .

I really like to know who really uses Metro for applications on the desktop at over 25% of their computer usage - as in the percentage of Win 8 users that is. For me it is just bloatware except for Net-flix .

Why would anyone expect Windows 7 to get DX12 when it didn't even get DX11.1 and 11.2?

DX12 on Windows 7 would have done much for the adoption rate however, especially since all Nvidia's DX11 GPUs and AMD's HD 7000 will be able to use it.
