Unable to relax - Page 3

So I think I made it to the next round. Still awaiting final confirmation but the recruiter already pre-wired me. Debrief needs to happen which may/may not move me to next round. Happy about it but I also feel a bit terrible as my current boss will be going through a few departures in his team and is really counting on me to stick around.

First time in my life I have been this conflicted towards making a decision. If I pass all hell breaks loose (or at least I think) in my current org. If I decline after being given the offer then I burn a few bridges as well. I can either bow out now (and would never know if I would’ve passed - ego kill). Or I go all the way and also take the new role knowing that I will completely screw my current boss over at least for 3-6 months.

Result. Awake since 4 AM. Even though it is a weekend. Great job!

Life is too short to compromise on decisions like this. Go for where your heart tells you you want to be. Your current org will recover. It’s not your fault that it is where it is.

Maybe you are just overly excited about the opportunities that await you?

Doubt is normal, but it's vital you process it properly. Coming from someone who freaked out about my life going "back on track" and ending up bowing out, just go for whatever feels right man. Life is too short to regret anything.

If joking, that is one thing but I've witnessed other leaders in different departments of my company do exactly that because "they couldn't lose their most important employee." Don't understand how some people think holding back their direct reports will do anything but make them flee and hate you. And worse, when they know you held them back, you think they're still going to give it their best?

Good luck, and if what was said above wasnt a joke, get out of there ASAP even if this thing doesn't work out, because your boss should be happy when you get to move up and not be a hindrance. Those who cut out the rungs below them on their ascent, deserve to fall as far as possible and completely alone, IMO.

Well right now my mind can’t shut off. My head and eyes are sore thinking about the humiliation of it all. Probably won’t be going to office for a while. Anyways it’s not like anyone shows out there.

I think will take a bunch of sleeping pills to cool off for a bit. Might increase dosage as my mind is always hyper active.
