Default Games Finished in January 2019

Thought about doing this series to kind of assist people and motivate them to finish their backlogs. As many have seen, I have completed a lot of games last year and still managed to do my hobbies, take care of family, career going strong and travel a lot.

Not every month someone will be finishing a lot, as there are months where a person just can't finish anything. Then you got that streak going in another month.

Also, if you plan to replay the game, it is fine but don't repeat it at a later month as first completion is what counts.

Another thing is the criteria of what is considered completed in unclear games such as team based multiplayer games; I would say set a target for that. E.g. I considered Overwatch completed when I reached level 100. Or when I finished story mode (which was a long movie sequence) in Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator. You decide what you consider is completed as long as it is reasonable to a certain extend and correlate-able to a single player experience.

DLC completed at a separate time from the main game and has enough content (+1 hour) can be counted as a separate completion.

Console completions can be accepted as long as the main focus is still PC overall.

Completed Games:
522-Into the Breach
523-The Vagrant
524-Catherine Classic
19 -Shadow of the Colossus

Good luck to all and have a fun and enjoyable 2019!

New year, new games to finish! The Christmas sales and presents seriously lengthened my backlog, but I am loving working through it. I got the year off to a good start with four finished games:

* Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4). A bit of a slog near the end, but certainly a marvelous game. Especially on a technical level it's impressive what Rockstar have put together. I found the campaign too restricting in its gameplay though, I would have preferred the open world elements and mission design to come together more fluently.

* Frostrunner (PC). A short and free game that's all about jumping and speed. Apparently it's a student project that made it to a complete game. I really enjoyed its narrow scope: a quick succession of short levels with a handful of goals at best. Recommended if you've got an evening to spend - that's all it should take anyway!

* A story about my uncle (PC). Got this one for free in the Humble Bundle sales. Similarly to Frostrunner, it's all about movement, but this time in a professional package. Enjoyable but also somewhat forgettable, except for that one jump. Might be a different jump for everyone, but I think every player that has finished it, will have had at least one heart-in-mouth jump that narrowly came together at the very last moment.

* Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS4). I've got the Uncharted series to work through, and the first one's done and dusted. By today's standards it appears plain and simple, though I'm not sure it was viewed differently back in 2007. All of its elements mesh together expertly though, and its charm hasn't receded. What I appreciate particularly, is that it doesn't outstay its welcome: I clocked in a little less than seven hours.

Had some time off in Jan so plenty of gaming. 18 games in total though as usual mostly shorter ones; Pillars of the Earth, Fibrillation, AntVentor, Orwell Ignorance is Strength, The Wizards, What Remains of Edith Finch, Hidden Folks, ZR Zombie Riot, Sneaky Bears, Milkmaid of the Milky Way, The Station, The Sexy Brutale, Guns 'n' Stories, Mages of Mystralia, Detention, Figment, Titanfall 2 SP and The Count Lucanor.

All but two of them were less than ten hours, most under four. Infact, I've also been playing MGSV Phantom Pain and it's tutorial was longer than some of these complete games.

Just one. Finished Spiderman on PS4.

Now working on God of War.

Also, the Dec 2018 games finished list is completely messed up. All the games I played from June to Dec are wiped out. Looks like a bunch of them were stuffed in January??

10 games.

Leisure Suit Larry: Lovel for Sail!: this game is good, has a nice drawing style and animations, although they have low resolution for the standard nowadays. I don't know why they decided to let the player still input commands for some puzzles.
Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude: WTF is this game. Boring, repetitive, constant loading times, too many mini games that are repeated over and over, bad jokes left and right.
Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Dry: This is latest entry in the Larry series (released in 2018). This is a very good adventure game, true to the jokes and sexual innuendos that are part of the Larry series. It is funny and fun to play.
After the End: Forsaken Destiny: A puzzle game where you play as father and son, most of the levels one at a time, only the last level that mix the two characters. It is a good puzzle game, quite easy, I didn't have problems solving the problems. It is an android game.
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet: Metroidvania game. Short, not hard, good design, gameplay has aged. Better played with mouse and keyboard.
J.U.L.I.A.: Among the Stars: Another adventure game, but this one is sort of in first person with static scenarios. The plot is well developed (space travel, AI, several planets, aliens), but you will understand what has happened if you pay attention what is going on. And you probably will, because you need to understand what is happening to solve some of the puzzles. I liked this game.
Kathy Rain: Another adventure (guess this was my adventure month). It has an interesting plot (supernatural, afterlife). The game build up is slow, after the start it improves a lot. It is more of a traditional adventure point and click game. I liked it, but I thought it was going to be better.
Ladra: A very short stealth game made in RPG Maker. Yeah, that's about it. Not a very good stealth game.
Machinarium: Adventure game. Amanita Studios (Botanicula, Chuchel) games are really weird. This one has some funny parts (I really like the band).
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna): This is a platformer. This game shows the way the Inuit (or Eskimos, the way they don't like to be called) tells their stories from generation to generation. Very relaxing game, it has a documentary structure to it (as in you have actual interview with some folks about their culture). The gameplay is very easy to understand too.

Those episodes on Eisberg Star Wars were released as 2 games. Let’s at least keep things consistent.

I finished one game: Assassins Creed III

Also, I noticed that your listing for my number of games in 2017 is wrong. It says zero, but I finished ten games in 2017. I went back to the December 2017 thread and checked.

It looks to me what happened was that in the December 2018 update, somehow my 10 from 2017 was transferred to BrainStew who only finished 5 in 2017, and mine was replaced with a zero. Up through November 2018 it looks like the numbers were right, so it must have been something to do with entering the comparison to 2017.

On another note, I hope to finish at least one game per month this year, so I can beat both of the last two years.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider. 8/10. I really enjoyed it. I still need to finish the DLC packs, but they are more stand-alone tombs so far. I'll hit them up once I finish Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Thanks for catching that. Seems I messed up the sorting for 2017 completions sometime in 2018. Anyway, I fixed it in my sheet and is reflected correctly in this thread and hopefully I don't mess it up going forward!

I was hooked on GTA 5 On-line much of the year and you never really finish that kind of game, I did finish the solo part, I should have posted that, I just never thought of it.
