Default Good 8inch Win10 tablet

Hey Guys,

I gave my iPad mini 2 to my stepson. Little guy just loves it and he uses it way more than I did. With that said, I am looking for a good Windows 10 8 inch tablet. Would like it to have a really good display and I could care less if it comes with a keyboard or not. Plan on reading books, Windows 10 gaming, some classic gaming emulation, but mostly using it as a Chromcast remote

Cheap would be preferred what do you all recommend?

Probably best to grab a refurbished Surface Pro 3.

Surface 3 is a 10 inch and a very nice unit. Surface Pro is too big to be used effectively as a tablet in my opinion. I have the Surface 3 and keyboard and it works great. Before this I had the Dell Venue Pro 8 and that was a nice little unit but a little under-powered.

Their forums are ok for support, but you will be left to search Google for a lot of answers. They're decent little devices. I have the Hi8 Pro, and it has decent performance and came with Win10 and Android (I removed Android but I can't merge the partitions...). The battery life is ok, nothing to rave about. They're good devices for the price, just don't expect Apple or MS quality.

IMO Win10 isn't great on an 8" format. Windows doesn't have a really usable, scalable UI for such a small screen. Yes, even with scaling or tablet mode. You'd be better off going with something Android based for that format.

As for Chuwi, their quality is VERY inconsistent. It's basically a lottery whether you get a non-DOA unit, or if your unit doesn't develop issues down the line. Support is pretty much non-existent.

I was looking at the Teclast X80 pro and plus. pro is a higher res screen.
Not sure how good they are, but they are pretty cheap.
Android is too restrictive for me when it comes to some apps (mainly Youtube background playback/continuous playlist ).
Ipads are nice but too rich for my blood at this point in time.

Having used one for over a year, I'd say Windows is not great on tablets - at all.

Yes, as long as you use the limited number of tablet optimized applications it's decent but once you go outside the comfort zone you start to feel like someone is blowing **** on your face with a fan.

And on <12" it's even worse, trying to hit tiny buttons or dragging things makes you want to smash the tablet into the wall and shoot bill gates.

well, the reality is that you aren't paying 3-4-500 bucks for these chinese Windows tablets either. They are like $90 brand new. I think they are fine for basic crap.

My experience with cheap tablets dates back a few years, so maybe things have changed, but...

When I bought a no-name Android tablet at Best Buy, the screen was literally the worst thing I've ever seen. It was totally blurry, and I basically could not even stand to look at it, even turning the brightness way down. And it also weighed an incredible amount for an 8 inch tablet-- it was really heavy. Needless to say, I returned it almost immediately.

Like I said, this was early days, so maybe things have improved, but I'd want to at least look at the tablet you're buying in person, and also hold it in your hands.

I second the suggestion to look into a refurbished Surface, or a refurbished brand name. Usually you can get them relatively cheap, and at least you know solid engineering went into them.

I have a 7" Win10 tablet, and its pretty poor on the UI front.
