Lightbulb R350 driver path improves R300 performance

Here are my benchmarks:

http://www.tommti-systems.de/main-Da.../catalyst.html

PS. I will redo the tests, when the official drivers are out...

Thomas

I hope that ATI doesn't abandon its loyal R300 userbase now, by only optimizing the drivers for the R350, or even artificially slowing the R300 down to make people upgrade.

Seems like a well-known Tactic. GF3Ti`s "new" features anyone?

Might be fixed in the official Drivers, but the Reviews are out now

TB, since I have mostly forgotten my Deutsch, how did you mod the ati2mtag.sys file? And what did you modify exactly?

Just one (not exactly tiny, thogh) popup

Sounds promising for future drivers, performance-wise that is.

Going to miss the 8500...

The driver for the 9800Pro release was an early 7.84 build, which forms the basis for Cat 3.2

However, we've added stutter fixes since then and a couple of other bug fixes. Cat 3.2 is coming in a very few weeks.

I hope, the R300 will profite from the improvements from the R3500 driver path too. Almost 40% speed boost on the pixel shader tests would be very nice.

That wasn't clear to me.

Are both the 9700 regular and 9700 modified cat tests using the same Cat 3.2 drivers? Namely, is it saying the modification is to allow the drivers to work for the 9700, or to get the same driver to treat the R300 differently?

It would be pertinent to the 9700/9800 comparisons we might have seen, and would mean we have to wait until the full release Cat 3.2 to make such comparisons.

Thumbs up BEST SUPPORT EVER

Im just AMAZED on how ATI improved their drivers and Customer support. I can´t believe yet that they have 2 employees researching a forum to hear about the flaws and complains of their users and put the best to fix them at no cost at all. i have a 9700pro, and from now I will always but ATI.

How goes the issues with Papyrus's NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, e.g. configuration probs with OpenGL, lock ups in the road courses using the Direct3D renderer, and the shadows from structures onto cars not working in OpenGL, hence the lack of speed loss when enabled unlike in D3D?

Yes. Both use the 6307 drivers. Only difference is the modified ati2mtag.sys! I also tired the 3.1 cats, no performace change here.

@W1zzard

I could send you the offsets+values in the 6307 ati2mtag.sys, but it is useless until the new drivers are out.

Regards,
Thomas

Angry

Sorry, but I think ATi would not like it very much, to find its beta drivers all over the net. Maybe the final release doesn't need this modifications.
