Nintendo did more than just slap these games straight into an emulator...as I already said they would.

They didn't put a lot of work in though and I'd only give Nintendo 5/10 for what they've done. All three games could easily run at 1080p/60fps but they don't. It looks like the most work was done to Mario Sunshine.

I'm sure these games will get a patch or two to improve a few things but I wouldn't expect frame rate or resolution bumps

They said in the video they litteraly use Emulators , there are emulators within the files of the games themselves, beyond that all they did was redo a few videos, and change the controls a bit.

The only thing they did that I want is the new uprezzed videos they have on Galaxy, someone extract those and add it to the Dolphin Emulator.

I think you missed some details.

• Mario 64 is emulated, with alot of injected textures. No widescreen available.
• Mario Sunshine is emulated, with widescreen, some inject hud assets.
• Mario Galaxy's game code has been recompiled for ARM, while the graphics code is emulated... And they've made some significant updates to the controls.

Some of these decisions are strange, especially for Mario64... Hell there's community recompiled and recompiled versions available on the Switch that are superior in every way, and that's a little embarrassing.

But I get it, that Nintendo is using this collection as a proof of concept for emulating these platforms move ng forward. I fully expect to see Nintendo release more and more games from those eras.

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the emulation route, and I in some cases it may be the most efficient route to get stuff done. As long as these games run smoothly and aren't bottlenecked by the emulation, it's a perfectly fine strategy.

Hopefully they'll patch Mario64 to run in widescreen. I desperately wish they'd get Sunshine working in 60fps, but nintendo's not microsoft, right?

A lot is really stretching it. Only a few were replaced, or are really not noticeable.

So I spent some time with 3d All Stars this morning, and here are my thoughts:

• Overall the complaints are all valid. This was an incredibly half-assed effort by nintendo, and falls far short of their normal quality standards in many ways.
• All 3 games are amazing, and I'm still glad we get them. But yes, $60 is ridiculous for what they delivered.
• All 3 games look very nice and play smoothly, so no major complaints there. The emulation itself seems to be very good.
• Mario64 not only lacks widescreen, but doesn't even fill the full height of the screen either... There's black bars on all 4 sides. They really need to fix this in an update, 'cause it's super sloppy.
• Mario64 updates the textures that most desperately needed updates, including the hud elements, anything round (spheres, trees, etc.). I've heard people complain that they didn't update ALL textures, but really it's mostly fine. The art direction in Mario64 was impeccable, and the aesthetics stand the test of time well.
• It's supremely embarrassing though that there are already better versions of Mario64 running on the switch, with 1080p rendering, 60fps, updated textures, widescreen, updated camera controls. Heck, there's even better EMULATED versions of Mario64 running on the switch. The official release isn't bad, but it's massively failing to reach it's potential.
• Mario Sunshine is gorgeous, runs in widescreen, the presentation is excellent. I would love for them to recompile the gamecode and run it at 60fps, but whatever.
• The emulation for Sunshine is excellent, but this approach means they couldn't change any gameplay, which was sorely needed. The Sunshine controls and gameplay are every bit as janky as they were on the gamecube, and this game really needed some modernizations... especially for controlling the water canon, where Galaxy-style motion controls would have been AMAZING, and also some camera issues especially while chasing that blue mario guy... they definitely need to add some kind of radar system for finding him when he goes off screen. There's lots of opportunities for doing Sunshine right, and Nintendo got half-way there in this release.
• Mario Galaxy's presentation looks gorgeous as expected, and in many ways is the best of this collection. They've rejiggered the controls, and the menus even support touch inputs (sorely missing from the other games). The pointer to collect stars doesn't work as well without the Wiimote, and it's overall a bit sluggish and imprecise with the joycon. There's good options for 2 player controls too.
• I kindof expected this collection to offer some additional stuff, like artwork and such. But it's very bare-bones, with just 3 games, and 3 soundtracks, and absolutely nothing else.

Hopefully they'll continue to update this collection over time. Here are the biggest items I want them to fix, in order of priority:

1. Mario64 proper widescreen support with no black bars to make it consistent with the rest of the collection. This can be done with emulation, and there's no reason they can't do this.
2. Support Gamecube controllers for mario sunshine.
3. Mario Sunshine in 60fps.
4. Get everything running at 1080p in docked mode.
5. Enhanced controls for Sunshine.

It struck me that the name is Mario 3D All-Stars...kinda hinting that this is a collection of the All-Star 3D Mario games. You'd think that they'd also include Super Mario 3D World at the least because that's also a big 3D title and then they'd have one from each of their previous 3D consoles (N64, Gamecube, Wii, WiiU). Nintendo being the greedy Disney-like bastards that they are

Well they could separate 3d world from the rest since 3d world isnt THAT old compared to the rest. Im also guessing the Wii-U's relative failure justified 3d world to have more exposure by itself.

But the omission of Galaxy 2 was a huge oversight, that should have been included in the collection, theres no reason why it shouldnt have been.

Probably to keep cart sizes down and maybe because they already had one Galaxy game and didn't see the purpose of adding a second? Who knows, Nintendo lives in its own world
