Yeah I ordered a plug-in AFM disabler. Should arrive on Monday.

BBB has officially opened my claim with GM, says they (BBB) believe I'm eligible, and for the next two weeks we're in mediation with GM. Hope they buy back my truck for a fair value. If we don't get an agreement in mediation it goes to arbitration.

Did I miss a post since last? I thought your truck was fixed and was working fine?

It's been broken so much it's spent 78 days in the shop since February, 2018. No reason to start trusting it now, I already started the process with the BBB while it was in the shop for 3 weeks, going to see this through and move on.

And the hard downshift issue has already come back, I had two hard downshifts driving home Saturday night. I have no faith they're actually going to fix it, it seems to be a software problem.

I take it you're going to be crossing GM off your next truck short list then.

What are you thinking about getting if you get them to do the buy back?

Eyeing an Audi S3 or Golf R. Wife and I agree that I don't really need a truck, considering how rarely we need that much utility.

Hard to beat the amount of car you get for the money, honestly. If the buyout works out the way I think, will be looking at 2018's, for the 7 speed DSG. Most likely an S3, but we'll see what's available when I'm ready.

Just keep in mind. While we haven't really had any problems with our Audi's over the years, others have... I still recommend Audi's to others, but something to consider given your current situation.

I've owned plenty of VWs in recent years, still own a 2011 Golf. Problems are unavoidable, I have much more faith in Audi/VW than anything GM. The 18's I'm looking at still have plenty of warranty left too.

Your GM has a warranty still as well. That doesn't mean exercising it is fun.

I'd rather take my chances on an Audi than another GM, that's how sure.

BBB called me today, apparently I have one more step to take before we can proceed. I have to send a letter to GM saying I want a final repair, they have 30 days to contact me to set an appointment, they'll take my truck, try to repair it, and then when I get my truck back we can proceed. Have to do all this even though my truck qualifies 100% already. Sent the letter this afternoon. Lemon law in Texas is a joke.

I don't know why I'm surprised, but the transmission is getting worse. Even just 1 gear downshifts with slight acceleration are harsh, the 1-2 shift is harsh at times. When I coast and it drops out of gear it clunks, if I coast down at low speed it clunks. It clunks going into drive. Just sick of this truck. GM has 30 days to respond to my letter after it arrives. It should have arrived by Dec. 10, which gives them until Jan 9 to respond. I just want rid of this thing.

And if they fix it, then what? You aren't going to be happy because you have a boner for something else already. The fact that you're already doing test drives of other cars makes that abundantly clear.

I'm test driving because I'm in the middle of a lemon law buyback already. This truck qualifies as a lemon, this has already been established. I have to go through the motions, but even if they fix it it still qualifies, and I will still be getting it bought back. I'm required by Texas lemon law to send that letter. Troll another thread, you don't seem to understand what's going on at all.

If the dealer somehow successfully fixes your truck, why would it still be considered a lemon? Because of the number of days you have been without it in total?

Yes, 30 days in the shop in the first 24k miles or 2 years, whichever comes first. Mine is well over that, fixing it doesn't make it less of a lemon.

I get it though, clockwork bought a used to be lemon, and thinks that's the case for every other lemon. Maybe he thinks 80 days in the shop in a year and a half is okay, but I don't.

I don't blame you at all for not wanting it "fixed". If it's given you this much trouble under warranty, just imagine how much fun it's going to be when it's coming out of your pocket.

100% this. It's still in the bumper to bumper warranty, so it qualifies for a full buyback. Would be crazy not to.

It has a 5 year/60,000 powertrain warranty.

What do you mean fixing it doesn't make it less of a lemon? Perhaps legally, but what you suggest is that something mechanical cannot be fixed which I believe is a ludicrous idea.

I have been reading various forums about this issue and some customers have had good luck with a simple fluid flush and some have seen luck with a replacement torque converter.

I don't even take issue with the fact that you are unhappy and want it gone (we all work hard for our money and to experience something like that which we paid a decent sum for is unacceptable) it is more that I think this has less to do with believing whether it can be fixed and more about you being pumped up for something else and therefore have written the truck off regardless.

The fact that you have seemingly decent mechanical knowledge and literally do not want the vehicle if it the problem was indeed corrected says more about you than the actual issue. Which is your prerogative but seems inherently dishonest imo.

I'm not sure why you would consider that trolling on my part.

I've actually purchased two lemon/buyback vehicles in my lifetime. The first one I had for 5 years with 0 issues and about 60,000 miles put on it. The 2nd one has had a tpms replaced in one wheel and also the ETM replaced (due to a random reboot issue) both covered under warranty and unrelated to the complaints that led to buyback.

In both instances I received a hefty discount on year old vehicles with 8-10k miles on them. The original owners loss was apparently my gain.

I know what it can feel like to have a car with issues and sit in service. My 06 STI was in the shop for nearly a month after having an oil pickup tube failure. They ended up replacing the short block, oil pump, pickup tube, and something else under warranty. Did I write that car off and no longer want it? No, I was like "heck yeah, new engine!"

Which is your prerogative but seems inherently shady imo.

I'm not sure why you would consider that trolling on my part.
I don't want an inherently unreliable vehicle. When I filled out the buyback paperwork with the BBB, I literally took up every box with how many times my truck has been in the shop. If you think that's shady I feel sorry for you. If you are aware of everything I've gone through with this truck and you still think I'm shady then I can only surmise you're trolling. 80 days in the shop in a year and a half is not a good record. If you don't have anything constructive to add, I kindly ask you leave my thread. Your input is not needed.

Not trolling but perhaps playing devil's advocate. If it counts for anything, if/when you do get something else I definitely want

The way I look at it is pretty black and white. If I buy used, I deal with the issues. If I buy new, I expect it to be a reliable vehicle for at the very least the first three years.

I've played devils advocate quite a lot over the last 6 months, it's just not worth it. I bought it new expecting a reliable vehicle and unfortunately did not get that.

Some people have more tolerance to deal with problem cars. IF I had to go through all that trouble to get the car working, i'd want to get the thing fixed up and then i'd want to get rid of it asap. So I don't think its a boner for new car thing, its probably "im sick of dealing with this ****, get this thing outta here!"

It's already spent 80 days in the shop. What makes you think it's suddenly going to end there? haha

That's an insane number. I wouldn't even expect close to that over 10 years of ownership!
