![]() This may be a dumb question but is socket 939 backwards compatible with socket 754? I'm thinking of upgrading from my socket A xp 1700+ and I'm on a pretty tight budget. I would rather buy a S939 MoBo but the cheapest S939 processor I could find is roughly 35% more expensive than the S754 sempron 2800+ I'm currently considering. |

If you're gonna buy a S754 CPU, at least get one with PCI-E 16x. The motherboard in my HTPC has Nforce4, PCI-E 16x, and it was only $60usd ![]() |

![]() Precisely my point, Asrock should re-do that board with PCIE or even as a dual. Jetway also makes a 754 PCIE board using the ATI chipset. EPOX even makes an NF4 SLI 754 board! There is still plenty to choose from if you want to go cheap.

![]() Ya Asrock should make a S754 + S939 + AGP + PCIE board. Be nice if the seperate sets of DDR slots wasn't necessary, it's just wasted real estate to me. |

![]() http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...npa_sli/1.html I'm considering one of these when my 9800 gives out, there could still be some life left in all those high end 754's yet. In this review they only used GT6600's and a crappy Semipron to show you could use this board to build a good budget SLI setup. With top end parts it could fly! I agree about the need to accomodate the extra memory slots on the Asrock dual boards being wasted space. I guess if there was a way to make the board without having to do that then Asrock would have found it - the're not exactly a company to waste money needlessly.
