Question Is is possible to create a download schedule for Steam client?

Hi,
I have been thinking of buying Crysis Warhead over Steam as the retail pack is yet to hit Indian shores. I have a 2MBit/Sec ADSL line with a transfer cap of 10GB/month and free surfing hours from 2am to 8am.

Is their any way to schedule steam client in a way that it downloads content every night between 2 and 8?

Could you use Windows built in task scheduler to launch steam at 2am and then stop it running manually at 8am? There doesn't seem to be anything in steam from a quick scan around the net, but I'm at work, so can't check my own copy.

Hmm... I was thinking of task scheduler... maybe that's the only feasible way

BSNL?

Schedule Steam to start at 2AM. Then simply schedule a batch file to disconnect your internet connection at 8AM.

Put this in the batch file:
"rasdial /DISCONNECT" (without the quotes)

Ofcourse this will only work if your router is running in bridged mode.

Yeah but my Steam for example only downloads when I pause the file and resume the download again, and if you quit steam or whatever it wont start until you restart the download.

Not sure if everyone's is like that but it would make steam start but it wont download...

This is how I do it... I have a similar setup of off peak download. What I do is create a icon for the game I want to download eg: Crysis warhead.

It will create one that says d:\games\steam\steam.exe -app 1430340

what you do is create a task that loads this, at a certain time, when it does this it goes "oh you havent got this game loaded just wait while I do this". And bingo your as good as gold. You have it waiting for you ready to go when you wake up.

Done this heaps of times and works a treat.

leave the computer on, and then tell your electricity company to turn off electricity before you go to bed and turn it on at 2am and turn it off at 8am.

make sure you add Steam to your start up programs, so it will start downloading at 2am.
