Navi 7nm GPUs/Ryzen 3 announcments at Computex 2019?

Is there any reason to believe AMD can't make a chip twice as fast as the 5700XT? Isn't the 5700XT a fairly small die?

In terms of power consumption, if they add a lot more pipelines then they could run it at lower frequency which will bump up efficiency a ton. The last couple hundred MHz of frequency just blows out power consumption. It's true on both AMD and Nvidia (why you can get only minimally reduced performance if you set the power slider to 80 or 90% on a Geforce), but AMD is encountering it more since they're running their hardware closer to the edge.

So, anyway, that's a long winded way of saying that they could create a product that stays within reasonable power consumption, even with no other efficiency improvements.

Nagorak why do people keep falling for the AMD hype train? It was the same with the Fury Launch then Vega and when neither lived up to expectation everyone felt deflated. I think AMD's priorities in 2020 are as follows;

1. PS5 and Xbox Series X Soc's.
2. Zen 3.
3. Big Navi.

All resources will be utilised bringing 1 & 2 to market and 3 will probably miss it's launch date (sounds familiar?) and may slip to H1 2021. MS & Sony will be paying AMD to make sure their products launch on time and AMD can't afford to f**k that up. AMD also need Zen 3 to keep the pressure on Intel whilst they have the node advantage.

AMD are gaining market share in the d-GPU arena with their mid range cards that are out performing the similar NV cards at a better price point. If they do actually bring out a big Navi that beats a 2080ti not only will it be two years late but it will be in short supply and probably cost >$£800. At that price I'd rather buy an Xbox X series and not bother upgrading my GPU for a couple of more years.

I think everything both AMD & NV is just a stopgap till they get some form of a MCM GPU working
and they can both force the game developers to support it as most all new cards will be using it

They had better launch as soon as they can as it looks like 3080 is going to be a nice upgrade from the 2080.

I'm just saying based on current Navi it is not inconceivable that AMD could bring out a card that beats the 2080 Ti. It could be it's not their main priority--it remains to be seen--but if they wanted to, there's no reason to believe they couldn't, just based on current technology on display.

Personally, I don't see why AMD would not want to compete in GPUs too? It is one of their main business units. Even if they're doing well in CPUs right now, they need to be planning for a day where that's not the case, so they can't just abandon GPUs. There's also a lot of crossover with the gaming consoles, so much of their R&D is already covered. Using what they are developing for the consoles to create a high end gaming card doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

People take Fury and Vega being bad as signs that AMD can't compete or doesn't want to compete. In my opinion. it's just they were starved for resources because the CPUs were sucking and they were struggling to avoid going out of business. Now since that has turned around, I believe it's likely their performance in GPUs will turn around, too. Navi already looks a lot better than Vega ever did.

In any case, we'll just have to wait and see.

AMD owns way too much GPU ip to not make use of it. Its not just for gaming pro uses are increasingly making use of GPUs. So theres 2 fairly big markets to go after. It may take a couple more cycles for AMD to catch up to Nvidia now that it has some money but I dont doubt they can and will as long as the CPU biz keeps on humming.

they will be back on the GPU side .

they got Ryzen cooking with gas now they are at 40% market share on the CPU side and will most likely be at 50%+ when zen 3 launches and more after, intel got nothing till 2021 or later
since they went from 30% to 40% in 3 months

I can't believe they have not been pumping some of that cash into GPU R&D since ryzen 1



I thing they dumped everything after Raja left and started from scratch

Didn't they announced the r5700XT in June of last year? I guess there is still other shows where they could announce something bigger still for this year.

it was Radeon 7 last year at CES 2019 a little higher end than the 5700 xt


that they didn't even say anything about a 4k card is telling and only showed a card slower than a 5700 xt is

they won't have anything to do 4k till the end of 2021 and it will be MCM about the same time as nvidia hopper

She says all the things in this interview that she avoided for CES but it makes sense per the audience. CES audience wants to know what can be bought soon or now. Geeks like us want to know what upstream in 6 months to a year.

AMD never seems to be able to get the GPU and CPU lines firing on all cylinders at the same time...Its either one or the other but not both.

they never had either till now

when they bought ATI their CPU's were already getting killed by intel mostly one way or the other

and since 2006 and the buyout their GPU's have only been close only cheaper price and crossfire and dual cards saved them
but the GPU's keep the CPU side afloat till they started Ryzen and put everything into that

@KOMACHI_ENSAKA Navi21 engneering sample has already been delivered to AMD north american testing center. There are 80CUs on Navi21 with ray tracing in RDNA2 microarchitecture
