Angry If this happens...

... then it's proof the M$ has no idea what the hell a CONSOLE is:

...we learn that Microsoft will push its suppliers of DVD drives down by around 30 per cent, as part of a general cost cutting exercise before....

....it says, the Xbox 2 is launched in September.

Umm, this article is pure BS. They are confusing the price cutting and possible re-design of the Xbox (smaller form factor) with Xbox 2 (which won't be out until 2004-2005)

Don't worry.

Quite a few sites are reporting the exact same details and they all stemmed from a single place which ultimately misinterpreted information.

Microsoft itself does not anticipate now it will sell more than four million Xboxes this year - its overly optimistic target before launch was for six million units
September? That would just mean that they'd build an Xbox as powerful but with cheaper components.

But, I like my quote better, expected 6 million units, and it's not even hitting 4 million, how much money did MS think they'd make off the games, sad sad stuff.

Based on the trouble MS is having with nVidia, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see an XboxOne. By now they could produce a box half the weight, a quarter size, and a good deal cheaper -- sell it for the same or more and do a lot better in instant profit.

It's a sensible business move, really. It's just a shame the popular media are such idiots to the gaming world. Was is Maclean's or Time that announced that UT was the most played online shooter of 2001?

Well, the UT demo was the most downloaded file on Fileplanet.com ever(Not demo, file). It beat Q3 by about a few hundred thousand.

Possible Xbox redesign? Hmm.. sounds interesting. I've never been a huge fan (no pun intended) of the current box.. it's okay, just a bit bulky for my tastes. If they do release a smaller version, I'll more than likely pick that one up.

That reminds me.. I really need to pick up a PS2-to-Xbox controller adaptor for when my friends get together for some DOA3.. last night I was reminded of how much I loathe that controller in DOA3.

Yeah, I tried it. It was pretty nice, but I didn't get a chance to use it in DOA3. Doesn't matter, though, if I can get an adapter to use my PS2 controller on the Xbox. I do think that the S-Controller would have worked better for me, though. The D-pad is actually a NORMAL D-pad, which is a good thing. The regular controller's D-pad kept screwing me over. I kept trying to do a mid reversal and it kept giving me a low reversal.. I had to hit back PERFECTLY for it to register properly. I think it would have been easier with a "normal" D-pad.

Note that I'm not trying to diss the regular Xbox controller. I think it works great for some games.. just that DOA3 is NOT one of them. At least not for me.

I like that 'two-potato' feeling of the standard controller. And I never had much of a problem in DOA3... but D-pads have been problem ever since people were spoiled by the SNES one.

I figure the ultimate controller would be the PS2 made more comfortable and with proper analog triggers instead of the shoulder buttons... oh wait, that's the Xbox controller I'm talking about now...

Actually, i'd say people got spoiled from the Genesis/Staurn d-pads!

My ultimate controller would basically be a Dual Shock 2 with 2 extra face buttons (3-3), replace the current d-pad with a Genesis/Saturn/Neo-Geo Pocket d-pad and replace the analog sticks with the same style as the Xbox one (the top left one i belive, the one with the indentation).

Sweeeet...
