Default Nvidia 5700 vs the Radeon 9600

Which is better. THe Nvidia 5700 FX 256 mb or the ATI RADEON 9600 256MB DDR? I plan to play Doom 3 so i heard Nvidia is better but the Radeon is DDR. I could also get the 5500 which is 256 DDR.

Ignore both cards. Go for a more powerful card with 128mb of memory. Neither of the above cards needs that much memory.

Get a 128mb ATI 9600XT, or a 128mb ATI 9800 Pro, or a 128mb nVidia 5900XT/SE

agreed. If you want an econo-priced video card donot buy anything less than a Radeon 9600XT

256mb DDR means nothing if the card isn't fast enough to really utilize it. They offer 256 on the 5700 and 9600 non-pro as a marketing gimick more than anything else

I'd recommend the FX 5900XT, it out performs the 9600 series by a good margin. However if you need an econo card can't go wrong with a 9600 XT.

Is it a 5700 LE ? It is the only 5700 card I have seen with 256MB. The LE sucks, it will perform no better than 5200(250mhz) because of low clock speed. 275 Mhz vs 475 of the 5700 ultra. The 9600 XT 256 MB is much better, however you can get a 9800 Pro or 6800 non ultra for the same price range as 9600 XT 256MB. 5900SE is the best nvidia card at 200 dollar range.
