Hopefully it results in great youtube videos, and no serious injuries.
What's bad about it? Which hiccups?

As far as brake by wire, my only exposure is with my buddies Giulia Quad. It has absolutely terrible pedal feel with the carbon ceramics, where you have to stand on it to get it to stop. Compared to a traditional brake setup with iron rotors and a more modular/progressive feel. That's on the street. It's annoying, but perfectly usable and you get use to it. However, it's an absolute mess on the track. My buddy is very hard on cars and tends to ignore signs of distress from the car, and the brake by wire amplified that bad habit. There's no change in pedal feel, and no indication of how much heat is in the brakes besides some goofy blue/orange/red indicators on the rotors of a track screen he had up. Which, of course, he completely ignored. I watched his stopping distance keep increasing as I rode with him, warned him he should slow down a bit, and he kept at it. Fortunately, the car went into limp mode (one of 15x that day) and he had to pit.

Not a fan of brake by wire... I'm hoping GM's implementation has worked in some kind of pedal feedback or better indications of brake system temperature.

My Giulia has break by wire courtesy of Continental. I am undecided how I feel about it. At low speed it is very touchy.

Some people are claiming that the Z06 version will be open for orders in January. Seems like BS.

Could be open for ordering, but that doesn't mean anything would ship in 2020.

Sounds like electric steering, too much is very bad for you, and when it fails it doesn't just go to armstrong steering since there's no actual connection anymore

If something fails at speed in traffic, what does the car do, go into limp mode? How are these systems going to take years of neglect?

Lots of people ignore warning lights, many seized engines with the no oil light on.

I just prefer to be connected to my brakes and my steering, I suppose.

Electric power steering still connects the rack to the wheel.

Discounts are getting deep on the new C7 market. C7 1LT pricing is down to $43k new with 0 miles at a handful of dealerships. A C7 for the price of a new Mustang GT.

That's what I was trying to say, if the motor craps out, you aren't stuck without any steering if the assist completely goes away. This system has a very real chance of losing the brakes at the minimum of 1 wheel.

Huh?

Not really. If the electric or hybrid car has the option to use brake Regen it does become a bit more aggressive and allow you to stop in most normal conditions without using the brakes, but it certainly doesn't fix any of the problems with current brake by wire systems.

At least where the track is concerned. Otherwise, who cares. Brake by wire works just fine on the street.

One of the major issues with brake by wire is some manufacturers used brushed motors
with a specific lifespan of the brake system after which a 2500$ part needed to be replaced...

You've heard the rumors and you've seen the leaked CAD drawings. The car world has been speculating about overhead cams and turbochargers and flat-plane cranks in the backs of C8 Corvettes for months now, but we've confirmed with a deep source on the Corvette team that the upcoming C8.R race car and, more crucially, the C8 Corvette Z06 will be powered by a flat-plane-crank twin-turbo dual-overhead-cam V-8.

"Everyone thinks it will be a small block, but it won't be," said our source.

More details emerging:

Quote:
Based on the chart in the document, both the base and Z51 trims receive a 30.5-mm stabilizer bar in the front while the base gets a smaller 25.8-mm bar in the rear compared to the 28.5-mm unit on the Z51. Spring rates are now much different than those of the previous generation, due to the new architecture, and more so mimic those of other mid- and rear-engine cars. The base Corvette has 180-lb springs in the front and 217-lb springs in the rear, whereas the Z51 gets 226-lb springs in the front and 263-lb springs in the rear.

These numbers may seem low compared to those that were used on previous generations of Corvette but a whole new architecture and the move from transverse leaf to traditional coil springs means a whole new suspension setup. As a quick point of comparison, something like a Porsche 911 from the 991 generation (2012-2019) has a 187-lb spring in the front with a 350-lb spring in the rear.

Quote:
A chart allegedly showing General Motors' future engine offerings for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 has made its way onto the internet, bringing with it an abundance of new rumors for the 'Vette's upcoming performance trims.

The leak comes fresh from a member of Corvette Forum, who claims to have obtained a photo showcasing the future lineup of the C8 Corvette from a "guy who knows a guy." That being said—we can't confirm the validity of the leak, however, it does tick quite a few boxes that we have been expecting to see released during the C8's lifespan.

For example, the LT6 code is said to identify a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V-8, that although smaller in displacement, reportedly carries a heftier punch, placing 600 ponies on tap alongside 620 pound-feet of torque. This power rating places the motor square in the sights of the Z06, though it raises eyebrows to expect GM to release a lower-output engine for its new flagship sports car. Perhaps for a new Grand Sport?
