Default Phone USB port going bad, need a 'mini' recomendation

So it seems that the USB port on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is going bad. Wall-outlet based chargers (which seem to have a beefier micro-USB jack) seem to still charge it, but those that use USB adapters to charge it require me to flex the cable against the phone to maintain contacts with the USB port.

Having been through this with other phones, I know that this is the beginning of the end. So, therefore, I'm now in need of a replacement. I acknowledge the mistake I made with the S4 Mini was that I was only able to get an international version which limited me to HSPA+. I use StraightTalk's AT&T LTE plan, so any 4g AT&T compatible will do for a replacement.

While there seems to be an S5 Mini, I don't see equivalents for the S6 or S7 on the market. I know it's a niche, but I like carrying my phone without a case in my pocket. That being said, I'm opened to suggestions for regular sized phones.

I don't need the best of the best, but I'd like decent battery life/performance. I see I can get a refurbished S6 from Samsung for $399, but that's a lot for a used device. However, I'm hesitant to buy a non-factory refurbished phone on Amazon/eBay/the like as I know the **** condition that they can come in. Any recommendations for reasonably new technology for price/performance/reasonable size to fit in a pocket?

Also, like a newb to GSM phones, if I move to another AT&T compatible device, is just swapping my SIM into the new phone good enough or do I need to contact the carrier? The SIM is an LTE capable SIM, I just haven't gone through phone replacement outside of Verizon before. Many thanks for any assistance.

If you like your current phone, you can try getting the wireless charging cover and using that as another charging option.

Huawei p8/p9-lite. They are both smaller than the normal ones. (5" instead of 5,2") If that's still too big, maybe go for an Ascend. (4,5")

Are they still using a glass back on those? The Z3 was a nightmare in that regard.

Edit: They are. I think the problem is that making the back out of glass puts all the structure on the little frame around the phone and it just can't take it. The frame gets bent and deforms too easily.
