Default Does the Facebook app really drain the battery?

I have an iPhone 6s and have the Facebook and Messenger apps installed. I took the phone off the charger around 7:00 AM this morning and have not used the phone at all through out the day. It's been in standby mode the whole time sitting in my room with Wi-Fi on. Just randomly waking up the screen to check for notifications. Well, it's 6:38 PM right now (almost 12 hours off the charger) and the battery is still showing at 100%.

Yes.

The 100% is basically a rough estimate. On my nexus, on use, it would immediately drop to 99% or so because it wasn't at 100%. On my iphone, it sometimes stays on 100% for up to half an hour of gaming.

I can get 8hrs screen on time with Facebook and Messenger running all day, as well as Hangouts, not disabling anything, etc. I haven't had to try, but I'm pretty certain on more conservative days I could get two days of uptime. I don't use my phone 8hrs in one day very often. If Facebook is a battery hog it doesn't show on my 6s+.

The facebook app is a pile of **** regardless. I've resorted to just using the mobile page, last I check it took up 250MB on my S5 and I didn't want it on my S7 Edge. Never works right half the time anyway.

It is a battery drainer but not to the point it's crippling the phone. Also ever since I switched to iPhone/iPad the my experience with the Facebook app has been much improved, always crashed or certain functions wouldn't work on android.

I can confirm, with root and privacy guard/greenify, taking away all its requested permissions kills its battery drain powers.

Just use the mobile website. It works better than the app, and you don't need to get messenger to send messages either.

I don't know what's worse... these monopolies thinking they can do whatever they want to blatantly invade our privacy or them not making it clear the telemetry measures they take to gain additional revenue. With the amount of people questioning the battery drain issue it's obvious BOTH is the case.

I think the main drain issue is with people that aren't using WiFi... using a power-hungry cell signal to constantly check **** and update gobbles down the juice.

That said, I'm sure facebook has optimized things over the past couple of years when the issue first reared its head.
