Default Evolution of 3d basketball games

I don't play sports games, and I'm not really interested in them. But I came across a video where these guys play through the entire NBA 2k series, starting with the Dreamcast entries, and I'm totally fascinated to see how these evolve over time.

It's kindof amazing to see how great sports games look on the Dreamcast... really miles beyond everything that came before.

It's interesting to watch the fidelity of the animations become more realistic, the cloth simulation become more organic, etc.

Actually I really love the early xbox360/PS3 era cloth simulation, where it's cool looking and calls alot of attention to itself (16:52).

By NBA 2k13, all of the animation is really fluid, and players no longer slide around on the ground unnaturally, or click into animations. (25:35)

In the NBA 2k15 gameplay, there's a part where 2 players collide and it's really pretty natural. Cool that it captures interactions between players so well. (29:29)

Some cool videos out there which go back even further than just a single franchise:
