As much as I have thought about it, by the time it actually ships to me they will probably have either announce DK3 or the consumer model at which point I will be kicking myself.

3 months for arrival is just just before Christmas, which still leaves ~half a year of enjoyment before the real product arrives, which again will probably take a few months to arrive.

Not bad ; I almost preordered just now

Going to hold out for consumer version and hope they use a high-res pentile screen / displaced layers or something similar to reduce the screen-dooring effect.

Oculus is keeping quiet on its plans for the launch of a consumer-ready version, but we've learned that the company is planning to roll out a public beta for the headset as early as April 2015.

Release it already!!!!!

I will do everything within my power to get one of the first consumer versions. This thing is gonna rock and be all over the media when it comes out. Watch Jimmy Fallon will have it on first then it will be everywhere.

I will be very disappointed without a good step up in FOV. Like.... 110 minimum.

When Nvidia made its low-latency VR announcement, I immediately thought that the green team was going to have a de facto advantage over the red team. Fortunately for AMD users, this isn't the case.

According to Tom Forsyth, Oculus VR's Software Architect, this is a new enhancement for Nvidia GPUs that is already available in AMD graphics cards. In fact, some of these optimizations can be found in current Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 platforms as part of their respective SDK. Why? Because they are based on AMD GPUs

*brushes some dust off the thread*
I sure hope this rumored 4K 5.9" Samsung screen gives some hope of an even higher res OCR. DK2 is a lot better than DK1, but it still needs more pixel density.
http://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-rep...moled-display/

It is such a shame that the optics of turning a flat screen into a wide FOV cause the center of vision to have the lowest resolution, while the peripheral vision gets the better half of the deal.

Wow... call me impressed. Just got back from PAX. They only had DK2 set ups with Valkyrie and Elite Dangerous. But even with the old DK2 and heavy screen door it was an immediate, brilliant effect. I had my contacts in, so 20/20, and no adjustments needs, no 'getting used to it' period needed, it was instant completely natural 3D.

The Valk demo really made use of Oculus by having the AI doing loops around you standard dog fight style. Elite seemed to just want you to chase an AI around. Few people who demo'd the Oculus with Elite ever did more than stare straight ahead.

This was my absolute must see, practically praying for it to be there and the whole trip was worth just to get this first hand.
I am completely sold as a day 1 buyer.

People have created virtual movie theaters for watching movies with other rift users in a simulated theater.

Really though, the resolution is still not good enough for great movie watching. Unlike a normal TV, OCR has to spend its pixels covering your entire FOV. On top of that, the required lenses produce the lowest pixel density in your center of vision.

are we gonna have 4k screens that size so soon?
It would be nice just for the fill, never mind even bothering to play a game at that res. Even to negate most of the need for AA to take the load off our comps for 3D.

hmm... nice.. but i'd still like to see a 21:9 size screen for a future oculus version. But I guess that would have to be oculus only, I can't think of any other application for it.

Can't wait.

That's why even though I click on the DK2 order page every couple of days, I've been able to resist scratching that itch.

So far.
