Question Fastwrites? Important? Not important?

I was having trouble getting AGP 8x and the AGP settings enabled on my video card but after updating my mobo drivers all is fine. Except fastwrites will not remain on. It tests to on but stays off after a reboot.

Is fastwrites that important to have on, or does it have little effect on games?

i have never tested thoroughly myself, but what i believe it does it just some other form of memorty transfer, maybe uses less error correction or something. there is also side band addressing which is now so common its no longer a feature.

fastwrites = skipping the cpu on agp transphere's.. writes irectly too agp arperture.. speeds up agp transphere's.. can cause a few problems if there's a math error in the data.. the cpu isn't part of the transaction to check for one

Generally, it doesn't make any difference whether it's on or off, but if you get instabilities, turn it off.

No, it buffers up AGP writes so that if you make several writes to AGP addresses in sequence then it will send them all over the bus as one burst at full bus speed, rather than as single writes at 66MHz. It's useful for doing things like transferring textures into video memory from host memory, but won't make a huge performance difference in most cases.

if you don't enable it in the BIOS of your motherboard it won't get enabled just because the driver wants it, because the BIOS is saying no, and it's the basic input/output system so you can't argue with it. but I hear it's not important or in some cases even desireable, I haven't done any testing myself though, I've currently got it off, I don't want to reboot.
