*sigh* This just sucks
I am so tired of ATI's weak driver support I no longer even get pissed off. It just makes me sick to my stomach. They simply cannot write drivers for their own hardware. With every single release maybe one or two problems are solved and twice as many introduced. Yet we all blindly follow because this or that game work fine, so we must naturally assume everything is perfect.
Then you buy the newest game. I am now totally resigned to the fact that ATI will forever suck, regardless of how hard they try. It's gone on far too long to believe they are 'in the process' of revamping their driver team/driver code. I don't believe they hire driver devs that are truly knowledgable in their craft. While they eventually get the job done, I've moved on to the next new game released, only to repeat the cycle. The only option for any serious gamer is to wait for the nv30 to be completed.
This little rant was brought on by Icewind Dale crashing/locking... just another notch on ATI's belt of crappy drivers.
