Well they push what they are told to, When MS, Samsung and Apple pay your rent you do what you need to to make them happy.

Hey best Buy, You got some on your chin.

I got to try the Surface Pro 2 with stylus today, was pretty awesome, especially the digitizer... Except it was frigging huge, and heavy. Seriously way too much for a tablet. I'm not sure if other x86 tablets based on Bay Trail are that big, but if they are I can't see myself going to one. The Surface 2 was much better size-wise, but it wasn't turning on so I didn't get to try one. The fact it runs WinRT means I'd nevver get one anyways.

my asus transformer TF101 w/ keyboard is close to 3 lbs and thicker so the Surface Pro 2 w/ Type Cover 2 is only 2.5 lbs

Well Surface pro 2 is really more of an ultrabook in a (somewhat) chunky tablet package, as opposed to a real tablet.

I think the Bay trail units are smaller cuz the atom based proc is smaller and less power hungry.... I think theres a Dell Venue 8 and some other ones (lenova yoga? an Asus transformer or something).
Then theres Nokia 2520 which is a Snapdragon 800 (I think its the only one that is snapdragon 800 on the RT side). But again, its RT 8.1, not full PC Win 8.1.

Made my decision. Going for the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/galaxy-n...2195&cp=1&lp=1

A local BB has the 16Gb model for $429. Minus the $200 a coworker is giving me for my ipad 2...yeah, works for me.

Hey best Buy, You got some on your chin.
That's not really how it works. Each store has it calculated how much they are making per square foot, so anything additional that MS, Samsung and Apple want to pay above that figure is straight profit. Best Buy also gets the added benefit of not having to train or go through the employment process of specialists who may work those zones. This doesn't at all help stop them from being a showroom for Amazon though.

Seem that the other day and its mighty tempting, top of my android devices. Also starting to look at some of those dual tablets, running win8.1 and android... like the Samsung Ativ Q. Crazy specs and it caters to everything... just hope they will release it or something equivalent.

As for the whole SD card thing, anyone still actually use those anymore? Reminds me of the whole kerfuffle when Jobs killed the floppy drive on the original iMac. People were freaking out and Apple was DOOMED! Most people just use their phones for photos and video now and it's easy enough to WiFi sh*t back and forth. It's so much easier not to have to deal with searching for USB drives or SD cards all the time...

Using a bigger pouch on a belt clip doesn't bother anyone to keep a tablet? Or keeping a bigger tablet in a briefcase? I would deal with it because the bigger the screen with hd 1080 res the better.

Anyway when they come out with flexible hd tablets you can roll up and put in a tube on your belt then I won't have to worry about it. Then further in the future more space can be saved by having the rolled up screen fold in half or folded two or three times.

Why do I have to get around anything? Going through dropbox is an extra step that shouldn't be needed and isn't practical or timely with larger amounts of data. Setting up a web server to transfer files? Come on. I'd much rather (and would argue most consumers would as well) connect to a local PC and drag and drop files over.

Yes people still use SD cards. Cloud is still behind physical media in terms of speed of access, availability, and capacity. Not to mention having an expansion slot means my storage capacity is theoretically unlimited, or at the very least, cheaper than equivalent fixed storage devices. You know what else it's great for? Restoring your device and not having to waste time re-transferring media over.

I use media cards are all the time, from camera to device, boom. Cloud is becoming easier and quicker tho. The more i think about it the dual systems seems more ideal for me, but im really sad that the Activ Q is in question. Asus has a trio but i hate the fact that when you take the tablet off of the keyboard it forces you out of win8.1 and intro android, it should allow you to use both systems via tablet mode.

Oh... i definitely need a tablet over 1080p, was playing around with some last night and anything less than these high res screens are no go for me. Yes, im that picky.

Gah

The more I think about it, the less I think having access to a mobile ecosystem really matters to me if I'm running Win8.1 Pro. Like I can't really think of anything from my Android tablets (app-wise) that I'd really miss having. The only issue of concern is will regular software work as well on a tablet (issues like GUI sizing, gestures, touch input, etc). But I think I'm going to just say screw it and get something Win based.

Didn't want to make a new thread, but wanted to post initial impressions.

The 2014 edition of the 10.1 does not disappoint at all.

-initial setup. Apple has the market cornered on ease of first time setup, but anyone familiar with jellybean won't have an issue. Worst problem was getting gmail to authenticate, which it finally did after several tries.

-screen is clear and vibrant, using it in dynamic mode for now, but I did notice a little blotchyness on some videos...that may have been the source though, streaming comcast services. I haven't dug into the settings yet.

-Text through playbooks or browsing the web is crystal clear.

-The updated systems menu is very nice. Broken down into 4 categories and much simpler to navigate.

-Forward camera's reproduction impressed, options to open photos straight into the editor, which has the usual features. Rear camera is borked. Makes me look older than I am.

-Operation is smooth as butter, app killer on the desktop (ships with it) probably helps there.

-$25 playstore credit (already spent) and $50 samsung movie/TV credit, as well as other $$ perks for certain services, not shabby.

No regrets as of yet.

After a full day of moderate to heavy use about 30% battery left. That's not super accurate though as I don't have the % indicator enabled, and at a guess I had about 90% when I started the day.

"Moderate to heavy" may differ among users obviously, but that included fine tuning setup with power saving features disabled, about 1.5 hours video, 2 or so hours in sketchbook with music playing (using multi window) testing various photo editing apps along with the associated camera use.

fwiw...

There's a Battery section in Settings that will tell you exact percentage as well as what's eating up the battery. If you go in there and click on Screen it'll tell you how much screen on time you had.

Got it, thanks. I'll take more in depth notes starting from a fresh charge tomorrow.

HMm... will take a look at that device a little more tomorrow. On monday Im going to be ditching my phone (z10) for a nexus 5 so it would be kinda neat to go android all around. Then again i can play with my nexus 5 for a while and see if the whole google experience will keep me away from going the MS or another route.

In regards with android tablets, are companies (Asus, Samsung..etc) quicker on releasing google updates or they just as bad as the cell phones?

I had several updates right out of the box, and updates have been fairly frequent on my note 2.

So far the only issue I have is that 1 or 2 apps are just a little choppy. I'm laying that at the code r's feet though, as 99% of what I do on it is super smooth.

Multitasking on this is pure win, and the 2 year 50 gig drop box Samsung gives to new buyers makes file transfers sweet and easy.

So far, no regrets. Just have to figure out why screen capturing is intermittent. Swiping the side of your hand across the screen is supposed to print a capture, but it only works 40% of the time....maybe some open apps don't work well with it. Don't know yet.

Thx for the feedbacks!
About multitasking, my only concern with that feature are things like music playing while i pop into other apps or if apps are still updating as i do some work in another app. I know ms and blackberry systems can do this but i didnt try on ios or some if the older androids. This is one of the bigger kickers for me as i always have music playing in the background. I dont really care for side by side windows.
