Default Plugging my band (metal)

Been hard at work getting these songs done. I did everything but vocals and playing the drums. All home recorded and mixed and mastered by me. It's pretty much the best I could do with what I have. Anyway, give a listen and let me know how it sounds on your system. I did 16 songs out of the 19 we have and they should get rotated eventually.

Sounds pretty good. I could use more guitar in the mix. Drums are bit too loud in relation.

I don't know if it's the player or something wrong with my software.... but I'm getting basically no bass out of your tracks. Kind of kills the double bass drum pedal and the bass line when it's just a flat sounding thud...

On my setup it comes across as a bit muddy, think the vocals need to be pulled forward a smidge.

The drums and bass need some serious equalising; the kick/bass has no fill whatsoever. Otherwise, the actual playing is quite applaudable

To me muddy means no clarity or lack of certain treble frequencies. Is this what you guys mean? If so, on what instuments or is it the overall mix?

Even the drummer said the bass drums are too loud...just tonight at practice. If he says so...then they must be too loud!

If I lower those bass drums everything else will be up in volume in relation at least a little bit. Maybe lower the overall drum level after that. I can change that.

I have actually heard from others there are no bass frequencies out of the drum set and well....the bass guitar is not a bass guitar. It's my 6 string with a pitch shifter and impulse response cabinet emulators and other stuff.
I worry about redoing things that were posted because everyone will think this is not the song I heard awhile ago.

If you know how everything was recorded you might laugh if you were in the know. I mean, the bass drums were recorded with Shure SM57's on a Yamaha MD8 minidisc 8 track recorder. Same as vocals but with a SM58.

I'll try to readjust settings and post a song to see what you people think.
Just keep the feedback coming so I can be helped along the way. I swear I am deaf to certain frequencies...too many years of loud music without earplugs.

seems like you've lost the bottom end.. fill that back in and it should sound fine.

At first I thought I was listening to Soulfly w/ Arch Enemy elements, but for a non-metal head (I listen to pretty much anything) - me likes.

Keep it up!

Thank you very much.

I'm really trying to get down the sound before this week runs out so I can do the all 16 tracks the same way. We have a show on July 31st and someone already wants to help us out passing our demo around. He knows some people, considering he's in a well known band...just not our style (I won't tell you which band). Just trying to do the best I can with what I have in the amount of time I have.

It was meh... It may have just been the sound were muted out some, I dunno. I'm not really to thrilled about some of the vocals either. To be fair though, the whole low growl "singing" isn't my flavor. Steer it towards Fear Factory and I think it'd sound a bit better. But take Kitty for example, I love 'em till THEY of all people try to do the low growl singing. They just make me go wtf and skip the song.

That and the myspace player kept f'ing up...

I noticed your PM, sorry that I responded so late. Stricken sounds awesome!

Sent it to some of my friends, and they all liked it. Rank seems to come out as favorite tho.

Seriously, let me know when your CD goes live - you got at least 9 buyers already.

yeah Fear Factory are decent probally the best heavy metal band id say. they started in 1990 (i think) as well, not like the bands now who are generally fakes IMO. like slipknot (not saying they are neccessary bad or i mean to insult the guy who died either, slipknot have some good songs but they are just senseless, as i said they've got some decent songs and the vocalist is really good. but i cant make sense of their songs. your a worm etc, spit it out being one of them). Fear Factory they are the real deal and are clever, their lyrics make quite a lot of sense. Burton is a genius id say and dino is probally one of the best metal guitarists. top band. apparently they suck live though. but when they started they were really awesome. (my opinion they still are).

keep at it man sure you'll get really good, practise makes perfect. btw your really good guitarist mate. shame your vocalist isnt that great. by the way stick together and have the right attitude you'll get good. thats whats it all about really.

oh yeah vocalists improve too, theres a band round here they think they are really good (appauling they are) you guys are tons better than them.

they are bad lol talk about deluded but yet they practise every time I go near the place they rent. they might be alright guys though. but i think they need told to improve or they will get no where, which is a shame.

The vocalist has only being doing it for about a year and a half. No experience before that.
I'm sure he'll figure out how to do things in time.
I did vocals before him so I know the proceedure and the learning process. Been there, done that. The whole holding of screams, raising and lowering of pitches...yup, I did that too for awhile.

I don't want the band to sound like Fear Factory, they already do.

the only thing I could say about the vocalist is maybe mix in some normal singing into some songs like Opeth.. I love Opeth and the waves of sound and style they hit you with.

other than that I really have enjoyed the songs I've heard.

I like the vocals. Has that old school metal/biker sound -- reminds me of Hatebreed.

EDIT: Actually vocal reminds me of old school MOD.

Hmm not sure if it would work with Fuku band. they don't have that same melodic feel that opeth has. Also, opeth mixes many genre's together; 70's rock, Jaz, blues, and metal. This is pure metal.

Just repetition of the same chords and the kids like this thing? im glad FF are back on the scene.

Im not turning this into a FF vs slipknot thread (already happens on youtube anyway). no need here.

but id say this owns, this.

hands down in terms of technical skill on guitar and so on.

And this is just my personal opinion, others might think otherwise. and thats fair enough.

(wow linking youtube looks weird on here, I'll spoiler it)

come on guys, lets see the big picture you know what the true meaning of fate is right? Im beginning to think you guys never went to school. because i didn't either. schools have turned into a joke. from when i went why so suddenly thats what i dont get im talking 7 years since high school.

SLIPKNOT FANS try not to get any STD's while your listening to slipknot and good luck not dieing or your kids turning into what she is if you do. (she needs some guidance and support and err love?) (The revolution has begun) if you cant see it your dumb its simple.

*shrug*

Fuku2, nice instrumentals. I really don´t like the vocal style, but I guess it suits the music. I´m a metalhead myself but that´s not really my style.

But good job and good luck!
