Both PS5 & Xbox are built for standing. Takes to much room otherwise. PS5 will take your whole table lol.

I don’t think any disc works well tilted sideways. But that is my experience with all standing consoles shown since PS2.

Some interesting discussion on the performance. Sounds like neither system ever hits 4k, most of the time sitting at 1440P if there is any action. Highest either system gets is 1760P or so, according to them. PS5 seems to run a lot better, where the framerate is slightly less on XBox X and it suffers from a lot of frame tearing. Otherwise, they look nearly identical in visuals and pop-in. Both try to maintain 60fps, and use dynamic resolution, and also are often sitting at 50-55fps and 1440P-1760P.

Not surprising at all considering that I've been reading that the PS5 dev kits were ready a lot longer than the Xbox ones (I've read almost a year) due to Microsoft waiting for RDNA 2 full features. What you're getting is the PS5 version of the game quickly slapped together for the Series X. Also, almost every other video I've seen of the game has the Series X version running at 59-60fps the vast majority of the time. Unfortunately Digital Foundry likes to spend time looking for every example of poor performance but they shouldn't make it look like it's representative of the overall experience.

Because Microsoft was very late to the game with Dev kits I'd imagine this will play out similarily (depending on individual developer's efforts) for the next 6+ months. The fact is the Series X is faster in every regard and has a more robust feature set so if a game is playing the same or worse on the system it's because the developer didn't have the time to properly optimize the game or they didn't put in the effort. It's also possible that the software they are using for developing PS5 games is a bit more efficient or easier to use right now. All I know is that once the Series X starts getting properly utilized it'll be significantly faster than the PS5.

One thing I'm really impressed with is the loading times on Series X...faster than PS5 in the majority of games I've seen and in the few where PS5 is faster it's only by a few seconds. The Velocity Architecture that Microsoft is using obviously works quite well. Just imagine if they had been using a faster drive

Yes, that is pretty amazing. We may see that running a cheaper ssd with a better software framework is the superior option afterall.

Just so we're all on the same page, I don't have a dog in this fight and am completely neutral. Just thought the video did a decent job of laying out the differences, for better or worse.

I'm stoked about both consoles. More for the PS5, but that's only because I have a gaming PC and no personal need for an XBox. But both systems are fantastic. I was pleased with what the PS4 was able to do, and can't wait to see what all the exclusives will be like this generation. It's going to be a good time for sure, for everybody.

I am intrigued by the video. My default was to purchase games on Series X assuming they would run better. That video shows otherwise. Guess I will need to watch out for reviews before I pick a plat to play a console title.

Microsoft better do something before their most powerful console slogan get's renamed to second most powerful console.

3 games so far, and PS5 is better in all 3. Valhalla, Devil May Cry 5 SE, Dirt 5 etc

I was expecting Xbox to lead by a fair margin, so something ****y is going on.

Well it's better in areas. I have not watched the Dirt 5 video yet.

Seeing that the same issues XSX is having with Valhalla show up on PC in the same spots points to the devs tools being in their infancy. MS is up to a year behind with tools compared to PS who are using the same ones from the PS4.

When the tools mature and devs get some time with them I'm confident the XSX will move ahead of the PS5 in comparisons.
Many of the XSX features are not even being utilized.

I will agree, I expected more as well and it's been disappointing to see early on but I'll give it some time.

*PS5 dev kit was certified June 2019
Series X/S dev kit certified June 2020

Add the pandemic and you can see why XSX is not fairing as well as we would think.

Yah, Microsoft took a short term risk by waiting for full RDNA 2.0 features to be fully implemented and then to make a new unified "Game Core" SDK that's designed for all PC and Xbox game development. By doing so they were not only late to get kits to developers but also the developers had a learning curve for the new system.

It'll be good news to Sony fans who can pretend that they have an equal or more powerful system but The Series X is significantly more capable and more powerful when it eventually gets fully utilized. The 44% increase in shader cores alone will be a big boost and that's not even including the various other RDNA 2.0 features the PS5 doesn't have. The only mistake I think Microsoft made was only having 10GB of full bandwidth RAM...they probably should have used 12GB but then again, I'm not a software/hardware engineer working with the system so maybe that's all it'll ever need

Something like the RTX 3080 is only working with 10GB period and you can see what that card is capable of even at high resolutions. I don't think it's going to matter all that much when they really start taking advantage of things like SFS and DirectStorage.

Just won a copy of Planet Coaster: Console Edition (standard edition) from a giveaway sponsored by Frontier on Reddit. It was posted across three Xbox subreddits (XboxSeriesX, xboxone, xbox) with what looks like 15K+ entries. Prizes were 1 Xbox Series X, 1 Xbox Series S, 1 Xbox One X, and 5 copies of Planet Coaster.

Haven't won something from a real giveaway/contest in eons, lol

Too bad the game is already on Gamepass, but at least I'll own it now.

Some CRTs were awesome and older systems looked MUCH better on them.

I do miss my Sony Trinitron 36" 1080i CRT (other than the size and weight)...it was the perfect mix of being able to play older games on a big screen and newer systems and still looked great. Damn thing died after 4 years...looked online and 95% of the problems were fixed by replacing a chip on the video board, well I was the other 5% and required a new video board in its entirety which was near impossible to find and way too expensive. Replaced it with a 50" Panasonic Plasma
