yea seriously, they're getting us excited for something to be released in 2015???? Then that trailer will have to be in game footage, cause by 2015 it wouldn't be so far off to expect games to look like that.

At least the hidden message said that the game that might be the witcher 3 is closer to completion.

I hate the trend of announcing games 15 years before the release date. I'd have rather have no read any of it, just tell me when it's done.

Fast forward 2-3 years to games that'll bring my GTX 670 to their knees, and i'm sure they'll be similar to that in game footage.

I think that there are a lot of aspects of BF3 that look plain awful like the gun flashes. I wasn't too impressed by lighting in general in BF3.

Real time is far, far, far, far, far from that video; very, very far away. Of course there have been huge advances in real-time graphics but we are still super far away from pre-rendered scenes like that one. I think our brain deceives us when we play a game because we are immersed by it. The same happened when we played N64, PSOne, PS2, etc. We always thought oh God, these benchmarks look so realistic, how can we possibly top that! But it is always our brain deceiving us and adapting to the graphics we are currently playing.

That video has full global illumination (accurate bounces in light); accurate motion blur; accurate and beautiful DoF and bokeh; crisp particle simulations (bullet); high quality post processing; high resolution and accurately displaced assets (just look at the skin pores for example); high resolution rigs with proper deformations (look at her blinking); high resolution textures (possibly multiple texture maps per character); accurate glossy reflections and possibly accurate refractions; accurate subsurface scattering; and the biggest one of all, real strands of hair. I am probably missing other stuff, but that's off the top of my head.

Real time is still quite far away from that video. We can fake a lot of stuff to give kind of a feel for "realism" (why do you think there's been so much emphasis on post process color grading?) but in reality we are incredibly far away from true realism, which I find exciting.

Just remember not even pre-rendered CG has reached full realism, it is quite close, but it's not there yet for a number of things. Also, this video is stylized realism anyway.

Erm, isnt that what CGI is? Faking stuff to make it look real? By that definition crysis 2 is photorealistic (with mods) cause it completely tricked my eyes when i play to make it look real.

You missed the point. Of course we fake a lot of stuff, but video games take non-realistic approaches to fakes and instead over stylize their games. For example look at the pre-baked lighting in games like Battlefield, it looks great due to the art design, but it is far, far away from film CG solutions in terms of quality and accuracy.

to each his own. I don't think its so important how they achieved it, when u step out of that APC at the start of the singleplayer BF3 campaign and see the lighting that's about as photorealistic as i've ever seen a game! It looks incredible!

This game is too far off, I wish they didn't start hyping it already.

I think I heard them say one reason they announced it this early in development is they are seeking to hire more developers to their team, and this was a way to advertise that.

Other than that I don't mind at all they're hyping it early. Because of who its from I have little to worry about.

From the trend i'm seeing we will not achive that kind of CGI graphics in 5 years let alone 2, but i have no doubt it will look better if not the same has the Witcher 2 that was not bad looking at all.

If the Unreal 4 engine can render the "good samaritan" demo on a gtx 670 @ 30fps, then i'd be more than happy with the quality of graphic realism in video games.

Samaritan was built on the newest version of Unreal Engine 3. The Elemental demo was built on UE4.

So is there some rumor going around that the game will have a multiplayer element to the gameplay?

Since Demon's/Dark Souls, I get the feeling a lot of developers want to incorporate a similar type of online element into their games.

Oh man, you play members of Psycho Squad and you have to go put down players that have gone ballistic. You kill them and level up your squad member, they just reload to an earlier save.

PnP RPG system? so this game actually will be a classic isometric cRPG? not Deus EX/Mass Effects/new Fallout shooter RPG? how will they sell this to console audience?

I doubt it, I'm not even sure that they would be able to sell a big budget isometric crpg to the pc gaming audience nowadays.
