Default Geforce 690 versus Radeon 7990

Saw an article over at AMDZone which linked to the Legit Review between these 2 monster cards in the new Futuremark Benchmark.

I was quite stunned to see such a massive lead with the 7990-around 33% which for the dollars each card costs is simply stunning!!

The link below.

While 3dmark is a good generalization of each cards general performance, there are far more factors in games that determine FPS/Smoothness. Just because a card performs better in 3dmark, doesnt mean that it will necessarily be quicker/smoother in games. Each engine is different. To say a 7990 is 33% faster than a 690 gtx is quite a bit of an overstatement. Not saying it isnt faster, but that there are other factors at play here.

7970 are performing well in this benchmark. In the games, these pups are quite evenly matched so don't think there is real difference of 33% between the cards.

Just pointing out an interesting fact from legitreview.

Whichever way you look at it, 33% is massive and many enthusiasts here leave and breath on benchmarking Futuremark!!

This is just one test, but it is the latest and greatest from futuremark and normally appears on every review site when comparing and benchmarking cards!!!

I was simply staggered by the huge difference between the 2 top dogs!

Fire Strike - ARES II 33% higher score than 690

Fire Strike Extreme - ARES II 33% higher score than 690

So is there a relationship between 3DMark score and gaming to lead to the conclusion that a % higher score will be represented in performance? Is there a relationship between 3Dmark score and smoothness?

hmmm 7990 asus ares 2 = games playable (at possible 33% epeen to boot)
690 = games playable (50% cash saved )

Additional frame rate I can't notice vs 500 USD for upgrade I can notice. Tough choice.

No, they said Catalyst 13.1 isn't rendering some effects correctly so it's not validated for 3DMark. Catalyst 13.2b works correctly and is validated for use with 3DMark.
