ONE is still being judged by the masses

Talking Can ATI drivers improve x800 series as much as Forceware improves 6800 series?

Looking at this review using the latest drivers for nvidia and ati
the 6800ultra beats the x800xtPE in most of the tests.. . it seems to me that nvidia is starting to get good improvements on their drivers. I haven't seen as much of an improvement in the x800 series. what gives? is it because the x800 series are based so much on the r300 series architecture and thus, there is no room for significant improvement any more since the drivers are already optimized for the r300 architecture?? the NV40 architecture is new and nvidia has alot of room for improvements.

at this moment, to me , it looks like the 6800 ultra is a better investment than the x800xtPE..
what do u guys think?

PS: I own both cards and the 6800ultra seems to be alittle faster than the x800xtPE using the latest drivers....

no worries. that review was with the 4.10s and the 256mb bug. in addition do we really have to worry? so what if one card is a little bit faster than the other or vice versa. just be happy that both companies produced very respectable cards.

ya the 4.9 and 4.10s both had a 256mb but where the cards only ran @ 128mb. I recommened using the latest hotfix driver its extremely faster.

4.10 = 4200 3dmark05
Hotfix 4.11B? = 5605 3dmark05

Doesn't the hotfix only have influence in doom3 and 3dmark05?

The XT-PE and Ultra are too close to call, the XT-PE usually haves better average fps but the Ultra does better on minimum fps, is my conclusion after reading many benches.

So in the end it all comes down to:
-price
-availability
-features
-overclockability

The 256mb bug DOESNT mean that the cards only ran at 128MB

It just wasnt as effcient as it should have been with memory allocation, you can check with 3dtool that the mem was being used
