It is rumoured that it will be available to the public on Monday, but the price of admission will be ~ $1000.

I'll stick w/ AMD TYVM.

The athlon 64 blows the P4EE out of the water in most benchmarks, and the ones that it dosn't (mostly content creation and programs that are optomized for hyper threading) the Athlon 64 is not far behind and thats on in 32 bit, as programs become 64 bit it should close the gap and surpass the p4ee entirely. and it's less expensive. Athlon 64 is $399+mother board, expect the P4EE to be closer to $1000.

if you don't trust Tom's Hardware, here's some more....
[H]ard|OCP:
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTI0

Anandtech:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1884

make your own conclusions based on the benchmarks, but my opinion is that 2 MB of L3 cache isn't all that useful, at least not in gaming situations

yeah, im thinking of going the 64 route, but i think im going to wait until it comes out in the 939 socket. from what i have read when they release the 939 version it will support unbuffered ddr and possibly ddr2. also rumor has it they are going to release it when pci express comes out. as far as price comparison though, yeah the 64 is cheaper but it uses registered ram and you need a new mobo. so amd64+mobo+ram compared to p4ee only. the price is not all that different. tom's has the p4ee listed i think at 849$.
400+150+280=830$ for amd64/mobo/1 gig registered ram
and if you want the fx chip it is 700$!!!
so which one is more expensive???????????

The A64 doesn't require registered memory, but then again, it competes against the P4Cs and I would say that its slightly slower than the 3.2GHz P4, which is price competitive with it. It's the FX that requires registered memory, and that additional cost more or less makes it as expensive a platform as the EE.

and these chips are supposed to be for gamers I dunno about you guys but 1000$ for a new cpu setup is just insane.I'll be sticking with my 2.8c (that I got for under 300$) until prices of the A64-fx come down into the atmosphere.

exactly. p4 2.4(or 2.8)+abitIC7g and you got a hell of a nice setup. oc to 3.0 or 3.2 speeds with a 875p chipset and thats damn fast for 350$.

If you want a Intel P4 EE you have to do one of these:

1.) Rob a bank
2.) Sell your soul to the devil
3.) Donate your organs and limbs to the hospital
4.) Give up your first born child (and maybe your wife and family too)
5.) Whore yourself to 1000 fat chicks for 500bux each , or 10 fat chicks for 5000 bux each....

of course you can buy the P4ee
they'll only have 1000 made and you'll only be able to get them through DELL while quantities last. It's just a rebadged XEON that'll cost you a fortune.
Have fun with it
