EA's license ends in 2023. And thank goodness, EA basically squandered that license, only releasing 2 good games out of it (Jedi Fallen Order and Squadrons) in the last 7 years.

With Lucasfilms no longer going to sell the license for exclusive use, we will hopefully start seeing new Star Wars games being made in different genres, from different dev/pubs, hopefully big and small.

I totally agree with what you guys say about squandering, but I guess that means there won't be a new Fallen Order? Or maybe Disney won't go exclusive and just farm out games to whomever? I could live with that.

Yeah bf2 is good and still fairly active even on pc.
However one publisher is not enough for a IP like this. Needs to be a free for all, I imagine the game must be coming post 2023 to avoid the license conflict, either that or they somehow early finished the contract.

Games Workshop seem to have done alright using that model, licensing off specific chunks of the universe rather than the whole thing in one go. The quality of titles has varied but we've seen a lot of Warhammer and 4K games as a result.

Compared the dozens of games that was released after Ep1 came out and have since been long forgotten?

Quality over quanity. Not milking the IP was the smart move Disney made. Now if they can apply that rule to films and tv.

With the success of The Mandalorian I wonder if that smuggler-centric 1313 game could be revived once the EA license expires? Seems like it fit very nicely into the "tone" that works best for Star Wars.
