Ok so what's the difference between Intel Core Duo and Intel Dual Core?

I noticed both kinds exist, yet I am not sure what the difference between them are. Could somebody help me out?

core 2 duo is 64bit I think.

Well there are lots of dual core intel chips, core duo is merely a specific type.

In the desktop sector, there's:
Pentium D - Dual core intel chip based on the P4 architecture
Core Duo - Dual core intel chip based on the Pentium M architecture
Core 2 Duo - Dual core intel chip based on the Core Duo architecture, but with significant improvements

I would add that the only desktop dual core from Intel worth having would be a Core 2 Duo.

Core Duo/Core 2 Duo were named such for this exact reason.

That reason of course being confusion of the masses. They want you to think "Intel" when you think dual core (the latest buzzword the masses are just starting to pick up on) so they went with a product name which sounds almost identical.

It's a marketing trick is all.
