The store pages are confusing.

Halo: Reach says it requires the base game MCC, but you can buy it alone. But if you buy the MCC it includes all the games.

That sounds like buying Reach alone won't work, same with the other games. So why are they selling them separately?

It may be confusing, but this is what it means:
Option A: buy the Master Chief Collection for €10, get access to Reach. The other releases will be paid DLC for your Master Chief Collection.
Option B: buy the Master Chief Collection for €40, get access to Reach. The other releases will be free DLC for your Master Chief Collection.

Essentially, the MCC is "free" and each game is paid downloadable content. You can buy each game separately as it's released, or buy them all in advance.

I figured that's how it worked. Seems maybe just giving the MCC to everyone for free, then enticing them to buy the games would be easier.

Oh well, guess that's why I'm not a marketing genius.

This seemed to be a file to launch the downloading of the game when available. Was pretty small.

I signed up for Xbox game pass since it was $1 for 3 months. I'll probably cancel before it renews, but for a buck.......

I noticed it started off by showing a 24gb d/l, but then shifted to the smaller d/l you are referencing

The audio is patchy at best I think, showing the game's age more than the graphics. Playing with mouse and keyboard takes some getting used to because of the controls for switching weapons/grenades, but otherwise natural. Most of all, I'm just happy to be back playing a Halo game again, for the first time since I sold my Xbox 360 circa 2013.

somethings really wrong with the audio.

I thought I heard the same thing when they first released the MCC on xbox, people were complaining about it then as well, they used really compressed/low quality sound compared to the original releases.

I can't wait to play that. I've got to have 2k hours in CE, both SP and MP, but Halo 2 was a buggy mess that I could barely finish.

Just put this collection on my wishlist, waiting for 1 & 2 to release

Game is not bad considering its ages old. It runs okay, the most glaring issues i have had are:
1. Inability to choose a DSR resolution
2. Inability to bind numpad enter to any command (it resets back to default)

There aren't many graphical tweaking options (says enhanced is the highest visual fidelity setting)

The entire MCC was 12.49US$ for me. Not bad for 5 or so games that i have never played

I started out with Reach, and it's okay... You can really tell for a console it's a great game. But for a PC it's really a lackluster FPS. Audio quality is extremely sub-par. Game feel is eh, weapons are eh, strategy of weapons is very eh, the balance of the weapons are eh. I can see why they haven't brought this to PC sooner, but I am enjoying getting to play reach which I never did before.

Best way to describe it. It's a really good mediocre FPS for pc.

People have said this quite often, but in my experience it's usually been people who were (exceptionally) late to the party. I'm not sure how your history books stack up when it comes to gaming a decade ago, but what other fast-paced PC shooters would you say were mediocre around 2008-2012, and which would you say were excellent?

I think theres things they could have added, to update it. Outside graphics. Audio positioning, and quality. Better HUD, etc. Quality of life things. Things that you wouldn't use on a console shooter.... A map? That's what holds it back a lot. No point in cover, or strategy, just run, shoot blindly, full clip someone. No strategy to the weapon use, just pick up what you see, and rotate. I found myself holding onto a gun because it was good, but had no real play in the game. Instead I should just be spamming ammo and using whatever drops with no repercussions. But thats because it's designed for controller play, so I get it. Anything can be killed with any gun. Some just do it slightly better than others.

The game was pretty meh for a Halo game even when it was released so it's nothing to be that amazed about.

I doubt you're playing on Heroic, let alone Legendary, if you're just spamming with whatever weapon is at hand. Essentially you're doing it wrong.

Yup. I remember alot of kids saying this same thing about the original Halo when they played it in 2007. Heck, I've heard the same thing about Half-Life... strange, when you play an industry-defining game several years late, it seems like lots of other games have already improved on the formula!

I wouldn't call Reach "industry-defining", btw, just a good solid console fps. Actually I didn't like the feel of the game on the 360... framerates were never stable. I played through it again with backwards compatability on xbox one and it was smooth as butter 'Looking forward to trying it again when it's available in 60fps.

Instead I should just be spamming ammo and using whatever drops with no repercussions. But thats because it's designed for controller play, so I get it. Anything can be killed with any gun. Some just do it slightly better than others.
For me, the basic 30-second Halo game loop includes grenades, shooting, melee, take cover, and repeat. Very fun and satisfying. I never feel like its boring because it's just shooting.

It's true that the game is designed around a controller. I've mentioned before, that I found Halo1 on PC to be way too easy, as head-shotting everything changes the core of the gameplay pretty dramatically. I'm hoping they've been able to better tune the game for PC, or else it seems like it will get boring.

Is it just me or do the colors look really bland on PC. Gunplay is tight though and I may finish it on PC again.

You can still hear it from me, about Half-Life being nothing special. Not only that, I blame that game each time I have to sit through 10 minutes of useless cinematic introduction or mid level fp cutscene. Quake 2 was 10 times the game HL was and the human enemies were straight amateurish in the latter.

Halo 1 on the other hand was a great fps, it nailed the combat and the AI. Shame about those kiddy enemies ruining the mood and the epic master chief MJOLNIR ASSAULT POWER ARMOR having just a biker helmet on top though.

Haven't played Reach yet but soon will, only have to make my kids pay for the MCC heh.

Garth Merenghi quotes
Most of you will probably know me already from my extensive canon of chillers including "Afterbirth" in which a mutated placenta attacks Bristol.

Everyone has a special talent. Mine is being able to write, produce direct, act, paint... Other people are good plumbers, that's their gift.

There are rebels and there are innovators. I'm a rebel. I play a rebel brain expert who's in rebelliance against conventional logic, who's in rebelliance against the world order. It's about rebelliance. And if that's not being an innovator, I don't know what is.

In times of conflict, when you're up against an agressor, be he human, be he inhuman, whoe'er he be, often he is both.

Greetings traveller. Who am I? Perhaps you have met me twixt sleep and and wake - in the penumbra of uncertainity you call unconsiousness... you know, my books are essentialy about "what ifs". In "Black Fang" I asked - what if a rat could drive a bus? And what if it and its rat brethren took over and ate Parliment?

A lot of people say "Garth Merenghi? Doesn't he write that horror crap?" Well, you're an idiot, because my books always say something, even if it's simple like "Don't geneticaly engineer crabs to be as big as man". There's always a message or a theme.

Reach is my favourite of the Halo games mainly for its Firefight Limited 'Horde' mode but I also like its Daily and Weekly challenges (which would be continued in Destiny) which encouraged playing a variety of gametypes. It's disappointing that's been removed along with the credit system where you chose what armour and upgrades you wanted which has been binned in place of a battle pass type system where you unlock fixed upgrades one at a time.

Map/gametype voting is also gone which is frustrating as there's no way now to avoid unpopular gametypes like generator defence. Multi-team PvP is missing which is a real shame as it was my favourite PvP game type, it put people in four teams of three which made for manic games especially the race mode where each team were given a rocket warthog and the passenger an EMP grenade launcher which was utterly chaotic as the warthogs all raced together for the checkpoints with huge barrages of rockets.

I am still enjoying the Firefight Limited 'Horde' mode which is still fun because unlike many current horde modes (Gears, Destiny, Halo5 Warzone FF etc.) the difficulty is not scaled by reducing the player's health to next to nothing and giving the enemies insane amount of health. Even the very toughest Elites will still go down in a couple of well placed shots but they're made more difficult by being fast, evasive and making good use of their armour abilities.
