AMD Catalyst Omega: AMD takes its drivers to the next level

The new Omega driver is getting a lot of response in our forums (link). We were able to test-drive it for a few days before its release and even threw some benchmarks to the mix. Click away to see our first impressions.

I remember using "Omega Drivers" for my old Geforce cards around 2003, 2004.. They were tweaked by someone and posted around the web.
Much better than official drivers. I just did a quick search online and it seems they were still going up until 2008, maybe even later?

Just a sample random link http://drivers.downloadatoz.com/vend...ndows-2000-xp/

And you bring up nvidia in this thread about the new AMD Catalyst driver for what reason?

Thanks for the post, Lupine.

Enjoyed the read, thanks Komb!

Good timing with the drivers, since I just upgraded from my well-worn HD5870 to an R9 270 on Monday.

Chill out..
I brought up the "Omega Drivers" name, that was used by some random devs a long time ago. I happened to own a Geforce card, no big deal. My last gfx card purchase was a Radeon.

tbh, a lot of us are a bit agnostic wrt which company one goes with, ATI or NVidia, AMD or Intel, etc... We go with whatever is felt to run whatever one is doing best at the time and in the given product generation.

I mean, back in the Pentium II days I used Intel, my next computer was an Athlon then Athlon 64, which tbh I would say had an edge over the latter day Pentium IIIs and the much hobbled Pentium 4 that debuted known as the Willemette core. After that, it was back to Intel with core 2, then with an i7. It wasn't so much about Intel or AMD, as it was about which product performed better, at the time...

As to ATI or NVidia, from a GeForce 3, I went to a Radeon 9600, which performed better then the dust buster model of GeForce that followed the GF3 and preceded the 6800GT (which I would have bought if I had the money then). I'm going from a GT 650m in my current laptop, to a Radeon 290x, because I do some crunching and the double precision fp performance is a consideration.

Eh you used what you used. For many of us, we're just after what will give us an edge in whatever generation we're looking at. For myself, I'm pretty much just scoping out mention of drivers, so when the new system arrives, I can get to the business of setting things up, and installing my software and games...

Never got that tbh, and I did a couple of installations, both with the press RC driver, and the final driver everyone got. Do you have any sort of special settings as far as the temp folder is concerned? Can't think of anything else
