Not yet. Perhaps later tonight, but an update from Creative is kinda like a miracle!
I just hope Crytek/Creative will address the popping sound I get in Far Cry from time to time.

If creative cared they would completely revamp their software and release as a free update. I mean on a 3GHz machine the creative mixer takes several seconds to load up and not to mentioned the GUI is complete ****. The mixer doesn't even have little ticks to show you some sort of graphical representation of where you are. They should learn from M-Audio and their Revolution 7.1 card. If it wasn't for the superior performance in games I would switch to something else. As soon as someone makes a sound card that has hardware DSP and support the latest EAX standards, I will sell my Audigy 2 ZS in a heart beat.

Sell it to me Anyway, the new drivers are fine. I guess UT2004 will be happy with the improved OAL acceleration

I noticed that too on a few levels and then I switched PCI slots, and now there isn't any more popping.. go figure?!? The new drivers seem to give me a bit more performance, but it might just be my mind also..

Holy ****, I think i just saw a pig fly by... Creative has actually released another driver w/in 6 months of the last one? How can this be?

Kmax.... I'm getting the popping too... was worse in the winter when the air was dry. One of these days, i'm gonna take the card out, dust the slot, and reseat the card... hopefully that will help

Well.. it did fix the popping outdoors but as soon as I go indoors or I'm underwater it starts popping again, so I'm assuming it's some sort of driver issue or something else.. this is confusing b/c my onboard audio works perfectly with it.. too bad it doesn't have all the connectivity that my Audigy Platinum has..

I have yet to determine if the new drivers fix the popping. So far so good. Also, the new drivers gave me no increase in performance. btw, where is this stereo x2 that everyone is talking about?

The stereo x2 is only available if you have an Audigy 2 ZS.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Stereo x2 option is actually available if you can "hack install" the A2 ZS apps onto one of the older cards. I'm using the Stereo x2 option w/ excellent results on both my A1 and A2.

Thankfully, my speakers have that mode built in. I just change the MODE with
the remote control and I'm good to go.

I wonder why 3d sound has not totally dominated in recent years. Is it the
performance hit? Lack of a definitive standard?

Yea, my current speaker setup has Stereo x2 built-in as well as a few other modes like PL2. I guess I just find it easier to let the sound card handle this. That way I can leave the speakers set to "6 Ch Direct" and never have to change the speaker settings. The A2 ZS software is actually smart enough to differentiate stereo from multi-channel sources and will only use the Stereo x2 on sources that are not multi-channel. I really find this convenient as I never have to futz w/ my speakers built-in output settings.

I noticed you have the Altec Lansing ADA 890's. I still have my old ADA 885's being minimally used on an older system. How do the 890's compare? The 885's were really feature-packed when I got them around 2000. I still consider it feature-packed today. They just didn't have enough power compared to my last two speaker sets.

3D sound seems relatively pervasive to me in the gaming area but nowhere else. Unfortunately, today your choice is pretty limited in gaming. Seems like most developers push for EAX in games if they decide to go w/ 3D sound.

I am not sure how they compare, but I do know they have been a fantastic
set of speaks for me. I am so glad I got them. They have an excellent virtual
center channel with level adjustment and the remote is da bomb!

One of the single best speaker buys ever - even though it was expensive.

Let me do some Google searching.....

Seems the 885's are the "white" version of the 890's. SO they should be
nearly the same.

Yea, I did some brief searching, and it looks like they might be the same minus the color. Can't be sure though since I couldn't find a spec comparison.

Still has a modern feature set though. First set of THX certified speakers I got!

Check around for links to download the A2 ZS CD files. I will check later if I can find the link for you. I did find the link in a thread around here myself though.

LOL. I didn't realize this was the same thread I had gotten it from, but it is. You're right though. I just checked the link, and it is dead now. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing links to other ones though so don't give up. If I have time later, I'll see if I can find one somewhere....

They have indeed served me well, and continue to do so.

Stereo x 2 = Low Overhead WIN!
