Thumbs up Idioit Proof Way in modding 9700pro>9800pro!!

This mod doesnt require any 3rd party software in order to mod.

Before you start make sure u currently have the 3.2cat's installed in the system.

Heres what you do:

1.First go to the Device manager.

2.Select your display adapter(select first 9700pro,not secondary..)

3.Go to "Update driver"

4.Install from a list or specific.

5.Click "dont search I will choose the driver i want to install"

6.Next UNCLICK "Show Compatible Devices"

7.Now on the Right white box, scroll down to "Radeon9800pro"(either one will do) and then hit next!!

8.When the drivers are being installed a window might come up saying Drivers hasnt passed the WHQL stuff, hit continue anyway.

9.Last do the same steps with the Radeon9700pro Secondary, and choose either 9800pro secondary on the list.

10.Then reboot and check the Directx box to see if the Smooth Vision 2.1 is there.

MY SMOOTH VISION 2.1 works now..!!!!!!

Good luck n00bz!!!

What exactly does SmoothVision 2.1 do for the 9700? Do we got improved FSAA performance? I thought this was a feature only for the 9800?

Thanks,

If its properly done you will see Smoothvision 2.1, and you will see a 3dmark2003 increase. I replaced the .sys file and updated the drivers as per the webpage.

Look in the direct3d settings...it's listed there at the top of the AA/AF section.

it does do somthing it just isnt the big immprovement that you would expect. i did it and ran the 3dmark and the biggest thing i noticed is the Dot3 bumpmapping was up about40 points and my pixel shading was up about 90 points and my vertex shadding was up like 20 points and my advanced pixel shadding was up a few points too... i got maybe 250/300 point increase alltogether so i know it did somthing.. plus my ocing wasnt effected i can still oc it as far as i did before infact i seem to be getting farther but im sure thats just me learning how to do it and not the mod but still i wsnt effected like some people were so all in all id say it was worth it. now its time to go play some games and see the real word effects this mod made.. this is a pic to show you my sesults after doing the mod and running 2001.

Bit confused here. I though the difference between the 9700 pro and 9800 will clock speed.

What does this mod do exactly (apart from boosting b/m scores)?

What are the differences between the 2 cards?

a software driver cant modify anything. obviously the 9800 is an optimized catalyst which i hope ati didnt officially give to us because there was no time to test.

i dont recommend trying this method to install it, a friend of mine just tried it and it didnt work.

the other method with the modified sys file works 100%

The difference between the 9700P and 9800P, as far as I can determine at this point, are:

(1) Made on an optimized .15 Micron manufacturing process which should allow for a 15-20% across the board clock rate improvement for the VPU at default clock. IMO, it should be possible to get 400MHz overclocks ROOB with stock cooling, at least.

(2) Higher clocked ram bus.

(3) F-buffer technology which may or may not have an impact on 3D gaming--will depend on the game.

(4) Various internal architectural tweaks which put it about ~5% faster per clock than a standard R300 9700P.

The important part of R350 for 3D gaming is that it runs faster and cooler than R300, and thus can be clocked higher and run cooler at the same time. Comparing a stock 9700P to a stock 9800P, each running at its default clock, the 9800P should be 15%-25% faster, depending on the software situation.

In software which exceeds the instruction count limit the F-Buffer is designed to overcome, the 9800P should be a multiple of times faster than the 9700P.

As far as the software part of it goes, I wouldn't worry about it, as ATi recently said the Cat 3.3's would include the same optimization paths for both the R300 and the R350, and so the 15-20% overall performance difference will come from clockspeed improvements to R350; with another ~5% performance improvement coming from hardware architectural tweaks made to R350 that are lacking in R300.

Basically, it boils down to whatever conditions you can apply to R300 for performance, apply them to R350 products and expect an average ~20%-25% improvement for the R350 products.

Thumbs up Try out this Test in 3dmark2001SE vr.330

I just tried out the fill-rate test in 3dMark2001se and my fill rate score went from 2680 to 3108,and the lower fill-rate went from 1590 to 2050!!!!!!!!!

this mod really kicks ass.I never seen a huge jump like this before just from a driver. And games run alot smoother.

GREAT WORK ATI!!!

Arrow @perc

Did you get my message? Did you lower your latency to cas1? everyone else, the most accurate way to softmod to 9800 is through rivatuner. Make sure when you load the specified .RTS file to look for a tab on the lower side of the window. CLick on it and select "optimize for 9800" or something similar. Consequently, the .sys file will be patched properly. Afterwards install the 9800pro drivers from system properties.
