Default I fixed the 9500Pro BIOS. It's now overclockable!

I did a comparison of the 9700Pro BIOS, the 9700 non-pro BIOS, and the 9500Pro BIOS and was able to find the one hexidecimal value that is keeping the 9500Pro and 9700 non-pro from overclocking.

ATi is setting the same hex value on the 9500Pro and 9700 non-pro to keep them from overclocking. I tested this change on both a 9700 non-pro and 9500Pro and it works. All of the overclocking utilities functioned correctly...Rage3D Tweak works great with it!

Download the new 9500Pro/9500non-pro/9700non-pro overclockable BIOS's and the newest version of ATIFLASH here:

http://www.3dchipset.com/bios/index.php

You may need to uninstall/reinstall your ATi Drivers and Control Panel.

I get checksum bad when trying to load it into radedit. Can you post your high clock/mem speeds?

I have a hard time trusting a BIOS from somebody with 13 posts and claiming to have tried it on two different high-dollar cards. I hope it's legit though and thanks for the work.

Default RadEdit is incorrect.

The bad checksum error is only because RadEdit doesn't recognize the new BIOS. I get that error with the original BIOS from the 9700 non-pro (it just doesn't know that specific BIOS). Even the 9700Pro BIOS 8.004 had a similar problem until a specific updated version on RadEdit was released.

Radeon 9500Pro: Core 340 / Memory 310

Radeon 9700 non-pro: Core 370 / Memory 326

If you have a hex editor, load the file up and check it out.

I don't think that you should be judging from the fact that I only have 13 posts in this group. I have a degree in Electronics Engineering and Mathematics. I just don't have the need to do a bunch of posting. Your caution is very much understood though!

I just flashed your BIOS, let the fun begin.

Yes Sir, you did it! I just ran 3dMark and gained 700pts going to 301/301. You're awesome!

Up to 330/310

I bet you that core can do 350 easy. It's probably the same core as the 9700 Pro and they clock locked it because they got nervous that people would have it at super high speeds!

System rebooted at 340/310. I also have my FSB @ 143, which overclocks the AGP bus as well. I bet with normal AGP bus this core will go much higher.

Hey guys, this sounds great. Thaks for your work, warp11. I haven't flashed a video card bios before though, can someone give me a link with the details on how exactly to do it?

Good job! Now there's an easy way to turn a 9700 into a 9700 PRO.

Just ran GTA III @ 1024x768, 32bit, 2x AA, 16x AF without problems at 325/310. No artifacting or tearing. Radeon 9700 Pro clock and memory speeds, now if only I could get that 256bit memory bus

Wow... Good work warp.

Warp what made you decide to look for this. Did you just figure that the ati locked the 9500 from being overclocked?

bearxor,

Are you using the newest version of atiflash that has been floating around?

Did you type: atiflash -f -p 0 9500warp.bin ?

I'm curious now. I don't know why some people would have a problem with this and others not.

Any input ComposMentis? What methodology did you use?

I had the same problem with v1.3

Thank goodness I had a PCI card lying around to boot off of. I have re-flashed back to OEM.

Is there a newer flash utility?

Many Thanks!

Hey warp11! Do you mind if I place your fix in the conclusion of a 9500 article we were about to post? Of course with full credit to you and links to this thread... Drop me a mail at kyle@hardocp.com with your thoughts on this if you would.
