CATALYST maker is still being judged by the masses

Default CATALYST 02.5 released

Hey everyone.
Well its been less than a month and we are at it again! Another official CATALYST. This time version 02.5 includes a new driver (7.80) and a new Hydravision (3.2).

Go grab em at ATI. As always please use CATALYST CREW feedback form for any issues and suggestions you want to get to us.

One of the significant features of CATALYST 02.5 is the new control panel "Wait for Vertical Sync" slider, which gives users greater control over their ability to enable VSync, (A significant number of users had been have been hoping that we would implement this). CATALYST 02.5 also includes HydraVision 3.2, which provides a number of new MultiDesk features, as well as the new MagnifiyFX control panel.

Specific areas of performance improvement:

RADEON 9700 PRO Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering performance has increased 10% in just about every game

RADEON 9700 PRO also gains appreciably in two Workstation-oriented tests:
ViewPerf 7 Unigraphics score has doubled with 7.80
ViewPerf 6 ProCDRS score is up 30%

PS. Next CATALYST posting will be a biggie!

Thanks for the continued support Rage3D!

Hmm, this driver is the same as the 2.5 Catalyst from the sapphire website, right?
If so, then the stuttering issue is not fixed yet. It seems to be the TCL-implementation in the driver. When i disable the TCL-unit via the "TCLEnable" string in the registry, the stuttering disappears and the texture flickering in Gothic1 disappears too.

Enjoy your 4600, I'll enjoy my zero stuttering 9700 Pro that runs everything 2x faster than your videocard. Thanks for posting your worthless drivel.

I don't know what is up with the servers that ATI is using but for the past 4 weeks, whenever I download anything from ATI, the download starts fast and then stalls completely.

Catalyst maker ... do you think it's necessary to uninstall driver first in WinXp ? Doesn't a "driver update" do the trick ? ..

Well, normally I just update drivers (ie, install over the old ones) without problens. But it's a per se case, so, you will have to try it out yourself... make an restore point "or" good luck!

Sweet! I was hoping for a new driver release
before I finished building my new PC, and the last
parts should arrive this week, what timing! Wooo!!
BTW - is the new control panel backwards-compatible
with older driver revisions (not that I would use older
drivers anyway); AND does anyone know A. when the
official release of DX9 will be out; and B. are these (2.5 Cats)
drivers compatible with the DX9 beta???

Just installed them with a fully uninstall ....

Nice drivers ... at last v-sync ..

BUT I get strange texture errors and things in ut2003 when I turn on quality settings in control panel .. resolution 1028X1024 .. got pretty low fps on this too btw ... 30-40 fps .. with eight bots in map nr2 ... (don't remember the name now) I got all settings on highest in the game .. truform was set on application preference ...

Anyone else experiencing the same issue ? Try it out ...

Is that NORMAL fps btw ? ..

Default Cs fixed?

Do you guys know if the 2.5's fixed the problem when ALT-TABBING out of Counter-Strike?

coming back in would produce nothing but black textures.

What the hell is this??

Shouldn't I use them on my 7500 card?

Merkor

P.S.: Can I use the built-by-ATI driver on a Sapphire 9700 non-Pro card?

The driver installation doesn't create the string in the registry. You must create it manually. You should search for a string named "AnisoDegree" or "AntiAlias". When the search-function of regedit find the string then you're in the right registry-key. Then you should create a new string and name it "TCLEnable". If you set it with the value "0", the TCL-engine should be disabled now.
You can test it with the high-polygon-benchmark in 3DMark200x.

The mention of SP1 leads leads me to believe that those who didn't install the service pack may not have any problems. Given that I don't have a Radeon 7500, however, I have no idea if this is true. . .

So far the drivers are better then the 2.4's. I now get smooth FPS in MW4:Mercs and it seems VSync is actually being disabled. Yes i dislike VSync , will be trying UT2k3 here later today or tommrow along with NOLF2.

Ok Exxtreme but now, i can't run most of my games but that's right, no stuttering in 3D Mark Game Demo with this method
Thanks anyway. I'd like to know if someone has succeeded in resolving the Stuttering issue (except with 3D Analyser)
Thanks

A good "stuttering-test" is the fablemark from powervr. With disabled TCL-engine the benchmark runs very smooth.
