Smile New SBLive! and Audigy software

There is a thread posted about this over in the AIW Radeon forum (as this new update fixes a very annoying problem with dropped frames at the start of a capture), but since I haven't seen anything posted here, I figured I'd share it with the hardware forum people.

Compaq is offering a 377 meg download which includes new drivers and updated software for SB Live!, 5.1, and Audigy users. Reports from 5.1 users is that the new software is a MAJOR improvement in overall sound quality. I have yet to test it out on my system.

The software is for WINDOWS XP AND 2000 ONLY. You can read more about it, the applications included, and the relesase notes over at Warp2Search.
http://www.warp2search.net/article.p...thread&order=0

Here is a direct link to the download:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/SP20920.exe

Note: If the installer tells you it can't find a SoundBlaster product, delete the CToem.cfg file in the directory where setup is located.

- Me

Edit: Warp2Search listed this as XP only software, but it is, in fact, compatible with Win2k, so I changed my post to reflect that.

Nope. It works fine if you don't have a Compaq. I was unsure as well, but I was told that it would be fine and it was. So far the only thing I've really noticed (aside from some new/updated applications) is that my sounds seem better balanced. I can listen to MP3s at a decent volume and now have every other sound (such as AIM noises) blaring loud now. I haven't noticed a huge difference in sound quality, but I don't have surround sound speakers and my ears aren't really that sensative anyway. I'm sure I would notice a difference in a side-by-side comparisson.

But to answer your question, no, you do not need to be a Compaq user to benefit from this upgrade.

Sound quality for me is WAY BETTER. Everyone should definitely check this out. It's amazing.

I'm on dial-up and not really a soundblaster live/audigy user but a Soundblaster PCI512 user, can it work for me too?

I'll download this even if i'm on dial-up if it can solve my problems.

Thumbs down THATS JUST STUPID... my god.

WOW GEE WIZ!
Only a 377 meg download to get my over price sound card to sound like it was supposed to? What a deal. (yes I know my sig says I have a Santa Cruz, I also have an audigy, in an anti-static bag, at the bottom of a stack of other outdated cards, in the bottom of a #2 pink RuberMead container, in the bottom drawr of my dresser).

COMON... I have NEVER heard of such a huge download to upgrade some g0d d@amned drivers! Am I the only one who finds a 377meg driver upgrade absolutly stupidly flabergasting?

edit: corrected download size

I find it Ironic that it is Compaq who are making better drivers than Creative themselves

its not just drivers, its the whole creative package that was included on the audigy cd, just updated and with all different languages too... thats why its so big

maybe someone can extract just the drivers so Sooung can be happy and dl something like 12mb instead of 377

I could easily rip the drivers folder, but I have no way of hosting it.. unless you want me to send through AIM.. 'cause that's about the best I can do.

Bass sounds much tighter. Other than that my ears can't hear any more improvements, but there's probably more...

I hate WinZip, too, but there are alternatives for ZIP files. Though I agree, WinACE does the best job for compression (from what I've seen). I ACEd the entire DRIVERS folder (including all subfolders) for a grand total of 9.6 MB, as opposed to 12.1 MB for RAR and 13.2 MB for ZIP. I just don't have anywhere to put it.

well, i got them installed (since this morning) and they arent causing any problems... i cant tell any sound quality difference, but i can easly vouch for miester's claim that the bass sounds tighter... i like that... makes the music sound so much better
