Thumbs up Wanna use VFW capture programs with WDM drivers? - it is not a problem!

download this, http://shopgeo.virtualave.net/wrapper.zip
unzip it, right click on INF file, select install, and do a restart. after restart you'll have VFW capture driver installed in system. The problems with CUseeMee, Netshow, WindowsMediaEncoder, VirtualDub will be solved!

Didn't work for me.
I am pretty sure that Win2k is an either/or proposition and will not allow both drivers to be installed at the same time (unlike Win98SE).

The same. I've only added some registry keys for correct installing the wrapper. Ths wrapper (vfwwdm32.dll) almost always present in system but the necessary registry keys aren't. You will have full set of capture resolutions and property sheets except the dialog for choosing of decoder standard (NTSC/PAL/Secam). An appropriate standard can be selected with MMC in advance.

Cool There's no need of such a thing

If you want to get VfW support on Win2k, you can just get an old w9x driver for your graphic board (I have a Rage Fury Pro VIVO) that still supports video for windows. You install the normal WDM drivers for w2k, then you take the driver directory, and execute setup from the WdmINF directory. This will install a fully working VfW-WDM driver on your w2k system. I have this on my PC, so I'm not joking.

i have longed for VFW compatibility FOR LONG and I NEEDED it before i bought the card and i dumb ass wise bought it thinking it would

i see quite a good "IT WORKS!!" here so i HAVE to be doing something wrong!! now what??

UPDATE: the .drv file IS NOT being installed in my system... when i reboot and do a search on the file it is not found anywhere(well only where i unziped the file) even though the 32.dll file is in the system32/ and system32/dll cache/ folder... is that the same places the .drv file should go?????? Cool Alternate fix that worked for me

Hardware: OEM Radeon 64MB VIVO
OS: Win2k Pro

I recently re-installed Win2k, installed the 3211 drivers, then upgraded to the 3218 drivers. I noticed VirtualDub no longer recognized any capture devices but it was working fine before the re-install (needless to say I was a bit upset about this). Here's the solution I found in a past thread in this forum (thanks to whoever figured this out).

"Update" the ATI WDM Rage Theater Video driver with an old version (try the driver on the CD that came with your card, that's what I used). After that "Update" (don't remember if I needed a reboot) just Update the Rage Theater driver back to the previous version of the drivers you have installed (3218 in my case). The VFW Wrapper (Microsoft WDM Image Capture) will remain installed.

Do a search for *.inf on the CD to find where the .inf files are (can't remember where they are located, but they are burried away somewhere).

How to install a specific version of the Rage Theater Video driver:
Open Device Manager, expand "Sound, video and Game controllers", double click on the "ATI WDM Rage Theater Video" device.
You will see the properties. Select the Driver tab and click "Update Driver".
When you see the option to "Search..." or "Display a List..." click on "Display a List..." and click Next.
Click the "Have Disk..." button and find the directory with the .inf files... should be pretty easy from there.

Follow those steps to install the old driver and to get back to the newer driver you are currently using.

All I can say is VirtualDub works perfectly for me once again.

Default well yeah that works for virtua dub...

but not the rest of the programs since virtua dub uses very simple registers from the mapper but the one posted suposedly has all the right register that go from mapper to original driver... thanks anyway... i just have no idea why MINE is the one that doesnt work with that new "fix"

1. *.drv file is only needed for Win98/Me.
2. The wrapper supports a subset of VfW capabilities. This is why one program can work with it (like VirtualDub) and other can't (like Netmeeting or WMEncoder).

You Must Be Doing Somthin Wrong..

from My Experience AIW RADEON has Always Worked w/ VFW in WIN98/ME .. I never had to Worry Bout it..

But in Win2k its Another Story

Try Extracting the Files from the ZIP to the /windows/system/ Directory..

then Clicking and installing the .INF

Digital Overload
(http://josh.swoca.net/digital/hardware.htm) <-SYSTEM SPECS

(and the Patch Did Work on My System)

It seems the Microsoft wrapper works for VIVO-cards in Win98/Me/2k but for AIW-cards it works only in 98/Me. I'm sorry but I have Radeon VIVO card and couldn't know the fact.

Default Digital Ov

i did that... i installed the patch and even installed the files myself in the system32 folder and still no go... there is no windows/system/ folder in win2k... only winnt/system and winnt/system32 even adding both files to both folders gives me the same results as no patch at all... damn it... what could be wrong with my damn system...

win2k SP2
latest drivers
800@966 P3
256Ram
and AIW radeon

i have NO idea what could be wrong ... ARGH this is pissing me off... :/ bad thing is the Direct Video was supposed to be such a standard but the damn programers dont want to accept it. An it seems i wont be using the AIW part for capture till XP and programs for it(with DV) make an appereance :/
